No Strut vs Strutted Light Wind Kites

Postby ORSales » Wed Dec 18, 2013 11:45 pm

Hey All,

As many of you will already have heard our new Flite Light Wind Kite is 30% lighter than previous light wind kites and is really making an impression on the light wind riders who have tried it. We've just released a small promo video for the kite that I thought I'd share with you here. In it our head of design, Ross Harrington explains why his light wind design performs better than the much hyped "no strut" options.

I'm sure this will raise a round of questions so feel free to post them here! I also threw in a link to XL Kite's review of the new Flite in order to add a somewhat impartial 2nd opinion - they tested every light wind kite available and chose to sell the Flite over all other options for this coming season.

So what's the actual weight for the 17m?

My 2014 Airush Lithium Zero18m is 3.42kg, the 2012 Switchblade 16m is 4.58kg. I'm surprised no one ever posts actual weights here. Coming from a biking background, the forums are nothing but real weight of components on scales.

Mr. Rodeo,
Are you aware that you are claiming your 17m flite has a mass of 2240 grams?
Is this in fact the case?
If so, this is impressive, especially if it lasts over a season.
If not,

Regards,

Edit:
Sorry, I see the claim is just against the prior year of the same kite. Losing over a kg is a big improvement. Hmmm, coal or candy?

Is this a slingshot kite or an OR kite....if it's an OR kite why is there a Slingshot banner in the background.... Mixed messages anyone?

nah it's just a vague shop review by a shop guy in a shop in TX, happens to have a slingshot banner, they probably carry slingshot there too....

The Cloud 17M (strutless) is 3.2 kg or 7 bl. Fast kite for being a 17M, drift great, lot of power, goes upwind with no problem, very stable, great for the waves, no problems relaunching but I do feel I get overpowered after 14 mph. I use it with a 6' surfboard.
