The wife is dragging me to watch the Melbourne open and hope I can escape to do some kiting instead. Anyone know what the winds are like then? Also which beaches are best?
Thanks.

Suggest you ask the questions you need on:
Seabreeze.com.au
There are sections to the different states- you'll be looking for Vic(toria)

you should have some good wind. Check out Brighton, just 15 min or so from the tennis statium.
you should get daily winds around 20 in the afternoons. sometimes more wind but generally around 20. average kites are 11m to 13m.
there are other beaches but Brighton is the closest and usually has the best wind.

The closest beach would be St Kilda. This beach is 5 mins from Hisense Arena and you can get a tram from the city or an easy cab ride. 4 kite operators are present here as well as a shop and shower. Check seabreeze and baywinds on the day.
