Differences between 2012-2013 Nugget to 2014 Nugget???

Postby Puetz » Wed Dec 18, 2013 6:44 am

G'day all,

Now that the new Nugget 2014 versions (5'2" and 5'5") have been out for a little while now, I was wondering if any one has a bit more intimate details on the differences to the older Nuggets ie 5'0" 2012 or the 2013 version?

Can anyone tell what they found between the new and old Nuggets in particular the light wind abilities and if the upwind is any different, better or worse, does the old one have better bottom end becasue of the wider tail ect ect.

Further, has anyone ridden both 5'2" and 5'5" and found much difference???

Thanks for your time and opinions!

cheers,

Robbie :D

Hey Puetz,

I have lots of time on the 2013 Nug and 2 Sesh's on the 2014 5 '5. The 5/5 seems a little stiffer. Good though. Seems more stable in chop at higher Speed. Riding Toeside it tracks Awesome for me Upwind as it does Heel. Low End seems about the same. Can't be totally sure about that yet. Flew it w 19 Edge. This I know is that it turns as easy and TIGHTER than the 2013 for my 241 PIES!! It seems the 5 more Inches give it more stability.

However the 2013 is an AMAZING stick! I guess for me there are suttle differences but I feel the 5/5 gives me a little more advantage.

The older nugget is ace. Low wind, loads of fun, and it looks like it would be all over the place in chop, but no. The newer needs to be the larger 5'5 for comparative low wind capabilities, and seems a bit more performance orientated. Fins are a bit more upright on newer, so it does feel different. I am sticking with older,it's a gem, but wouldn't say one was better than other, just above differences. Older 12/13 ones seem hard to get hold of, and if it's the bamboo one (2012) check deck carefully for delam problems. 2013 white seems fine. Just get one, you will have so much fun :)

... I've had a few sessions on the 2013 Nugget now and after getting used to the short little guy I love it. I found it snaps and fins break out so well when smacking little waves.

hey 14, just wondering, does the new one act the same, as in can you 'break' the fins out and still get it to slide the same when snapping off the top of a wave?? I do like the idea of the newer one tracking a bit straighter or stiffer, not that I'm complaining about the 2013, just that I would like it to be just that small bit more than the 2013.

14, you mention that the fins give you a bit more drive,,,, is that true,,, can you elaborate a little on the details there please????!! If I read your review correctly, it sounds exactly what I am after, I want it to have a little more drive when doing tight powered turns. I found the 2013 Nuggets tail give it its turning drive,,, where as my Cypher's fins do the driving around which I love that feeling,,, makes it nice and powerful.

Anyway, the Nugget is a great board which ever year model it is and your right letsgoflyakite, they are sooo much fun.

cheers,

Robbie :D

Robbie,

At our weight we can make the Nuggs do whatever we want. I felt the Newer Nug was as loose as the Old one when you want it to be. It's hard to describe. I like both boards however the new one does ride chop smoother for sure. I don't have enough time on the new one riding waves to give you better feedback than this for now. The New Nug for me goes upwind easier while riding Toeside.

... thanks dude,,,, yeah its fun to rag doll the little board around and it just keeps coming back for more,,,, suuuper fun indeed.

I like the idea that it toesides upwind better, probably dude to the slightly thinner tail area I supose??? If the new one is similar to the older one, I can't go wrong can I.

You know what,,,, bugger it,,,,, I'm going to get of the computer now and just order one.

Cheers for now and thanks for your time,

Robbie :D
