I'm guessing it's aimed at people who are so afraid of their kites they don't even ride with a leash, and want to be able to dump it all instantly

Of course everyone has to have their leash to not endanger others.
Normally the leash is connected to the harness, not the hook, right?

Well for systems like Cab IDS and X1 Overdrive where the flag line is attached to the very end of the chickenloop the leash is only used for riding unhooked "suicide" in that case the kite would not flag out when you pulled the harness safety. it would be like letting go of the bar. So this will not work well for all types of safety as is, ids is an easy fix just attach you leash to the flag line instead but x1 is internal and there is really no clean way of bypassing it.

But then what would be the point of this spreader bar? it would do the same thing as the primary quick release.

Unless you attached the leash to a point on the spreader bar, in which case you could pop the bar off instead of the leash as your secondary release.

either way it seems kind of redundant

An over engineered solution to a problem that never existed. IMHO

This could be an interesting innovation. It could make the quick release on the bar redundant and if replaced with a simple loop, the weight and cost of bars would come down. By getting rid of the traditional quick release on the bar it could also improve the amount of depower throw within your arm length which is a nice benefit for shorter people and also for hooked in wave riding.

It is a good start but it seems a bit over engineered. Slingshot had a Surefire spreader bar with a QR hook that was much simpler in concept. Less metal and flying metal parts.

I look forward to the day when bars are manufactured without QRs to bring down costs and simplify designs.Until then, I will need to be satisfied making my own bars with no QR.

This is the Slingshot hook, but it is no longer mounted on the Slingshot spreader bar

More like an over-engineered answer to a very specific market demand. If you haven't noticed, every time there's a kite-related accident or fatality a certain number of riders fall into some kind of hysteria and start running around like crasy while buying line-knives, inflatable boats, emergency flares, satellite phones and post-shark-sighting diapers.

Unfortunately, unless the end of you leash is attached to the "flying-away" part of the spreader bar, Mystic's "solution" brings nothing but redundancy to the primary (chicken-loop) release. Basically a solution that solvers nothing while people were asking for a harness that can be ditched as one's last resort.

if you fly different bar systems with different types of QR then you will have this way always the same release...that's the idea from Mystic.

And sometimes a QR does not work...this way you have a second option...

Sure, it does the same a QR should do.

More testing would be interested if it always releases.
