The waterfi seems to be the go-to mp3 player everyone gets.
i wanted something cheap, mainly to keep the water out of my ears rather than listen to music, so this is what I got. It was $20 and comes with headphones. The sound quality is not amazing but it works pretty well.

I mainly use my Waterfi for distance swimming so it goes on the back of my goggles. If you're wearing a wetsuit then just shove it down there, otherwise put it in the zip pocket of your boardies, most headphones will be long enough to reach your head from there. I can highly recommend the Waterfi and a set of Laird H2o headphones, the quality of sound is as good as normal in ear headphones.

I've been using the dolphin for several years now. absolutely love it.

I've had no issues at all except don't lose or forget the charger. it uses a mini-mini plug to usb for charging and downloading music. The I've never outlasted the battery on a long daily session. it holds up for at least 6-10 hours. No issues with water or quality it works and having music is an absolute must for me on the water and the snow.
Bought mine from prokitesurf
Never owned an apple anything and never will.

For clipping it somewhere I wear a necklace and clip it to that, and tuck it under a neoprene top or under the neck of my wetsuit. in addition to keeping it out of the way, if the earbuds fall out they just dangle out the top of the suit in a perfect spot where they don't seem to get in the way and are easy to put back in.

I got the same exact player Dyyylan has, except I got mine on ebay about a year ago for $12 shipped and still going strong, every once in a while it freaks out on me, I have to turn it off and on a couple of times, and problems solved for about another few seshs. Great little player, for the money anyways. I clip mine to my sunglasses neck strap, or tuck it under the wetsuit can't even tell is there. Is very light and small.

The samsung galacy S4 active is awesome! You can actually put a lot of music on and this phone is waterproof for real. The headphones I bought on ebay but they are not a known brand.
I love riding with music on!!
