Non rotating airstyle

Postby plummet » Thu Jan 23, 2014 9:20 pm

Hey bro's.

What do you recommend for non rotating tricks. I'm a bit of a lepper when it comes to rotations. But also i'm at a wave location and would like to bust some tricks off wave faces which don't rotate purely for ease of crashing into the waves. landing upside down and backwards into the pit of a pitching head high + wave is a fairly dangerous.

So i'm thinking of tricks to do that if i stuff it up i just loose the board and have a better chance and surviving the washing machine.

tons of boardoffs and one foots possible!

but get the rotations dialed in...I also was at a point with boardoffs and rotation...scared to do...didn't progress anymore at that time...then a friend of mine gave me a kick...and since then I lost fear and can rotate as much as I can progressing daily.

Go for it!!!

Well its not the fear of rotating. But inconvenience of crashing then getting hammered by a set of waves. Kite goes down and then gets torn in half.

Flat water fine. I'd practice rotations until i got dizzy. But in the waves, Particularly in the steeper dumping sections i like to boost off, its just not worth the risk for me.

Also I don't really get much joy from doing rotations. I much prefer to be flying through the air looking around at stuff. If I can add some non rotaty stuff then that would be cool.

plummet doesn't it depend on you? I am a huge fan of board offs, I think they look wonderful, I am not fond of all the spins and flips and stuff, I just want to see a giant board off done with grace and style with a great landing. I am also not very fond of the deadman tricks. I also think the indy grab is the single nicest looking grab you can do, not a huge fan of tail or front grabs. I also love every kind of low kiteloop trick, unfortunately they are best in flatwater. Which are the tricks you like watching the most?

less fear involved if you have a slow turning kite...

yeah I think I'm with you edt.

Enjoy the look of a super massive board off or boned grab or something like that.

Grace in simplicity perhaps?

I also like the look of those low level tricks like jesus walk, hand drag and butter slide.

Toby I have slow kites. 15 speed 3 and 13 edge plenty slow enough. buy enjoy 10m and 8m weather way more.

my advice is start with the one legged tricks, then progress to the big board off, it's easiest to grab on the fin near the tail, the handle is so small hard not many flexible enough to grab it (or get a real air style handle if you like handle board offs). The low kite loop stuff is pretty difficult in waves (how would you even do a butter slide over a wave? I have no idea) I would leave it until you get a flat water location.

Remember when you fail the board off throw the board behind you, no fun landing on it :-)

When a big swell is running there is flat sections in between the white wash. So I guess a chance to try those slide, low level tricks there.
