Baja mexico suggestions please

Postby Tperkin » Fri Jan 24, 2014 6:15 pm

We are planning a trip to Cabo with my wife end of february
I am a beginner to kiteboarding which is to say i have been training with the trainer kite and have pretty good control and understanding of the kite but 0 board or sea experience
I keep hearing about los barriles and la ventana
Are these spots good to learn and find some relaxing things to do for my wife while i am away for many hours
I realize cabo offers many nicer hotels that can keep her entertained but will it be too much of a hassle for me to commute every day??
I d appreciate any thoughts recommendations
Thank you

Fishermen do a thing called chumming where they throw a bunch of bloody, freshly caught fish guts into the water in order to attract other other fish. Sometimes they get a sweet catch of yellowfin or a similar, tasty fillet.

Often they get just sharks.

If you're not doing SOMETHING on the water at la Ventana you are probably very bored.

Los Barriles is about 1 1\2 hour drive from Cabo San Lucas. La Ventana is another hour. These times are one way with less than great road conditions. La Ventana is a better spot for a beginner, however. Flater water, steadier wind. There is very little/nothing to do in either place if you are not on the water (for the wife).

I just got back from ten days in Los Barilles with nine days of great wind. In past years I have also had several trips to La Ventana. Both are comparable in wind (both had 9 out of 10 days of wind during my trip). The water conditions are comparable in both locations and both have good kite schools.

I know that in Los Barilles Dante does a great job

and in La Ventana Marie has a good school

Los Barilles is a bigger town with things like a supermarket, shops, and a much better selection of restaraunts. Your wife will find more to do in Los Barilles. I went with a group and we found it easier to rent a house centrally located in Los Barilles. In La Ventana many of the house rentals are not near the central area and so then you will need a rental car.

You will enjoy either place.
