Depends on cold fronts Toby, but for the most part I think Feb's on Average is like 75s to low 80s so no suite or IMO a 2mm spring suit will do.

Yes, stop by the Crandon Park, if you get a chance!

A rashguard should be good enough. Although, I feel more comfortable on the 3/2 :)

Just this month so far I've worn a 2.5mm shorty as recent as yesterday, and a 3/2 full suit last week. The week before that I was wearing both of them at the same time and was still cold. It mostly depends on the air temperature, the water is usually around 72 to 75F this time of year, and the air temperature depends on the wind direction.

thx guys, so a shorty would do?
Or depending on forecast?

I have shorty or a long arm overknee...might be better to bring both, I am used to warm water and air for the last 4 months...

Sure, Crandon is my #1 spot in the area ;-)
If there is wind end of next week I will CU there :thumb:

I heard that you can do a downwinder from Miami Beach to Crandon.

Man watching Airstyle love would be awesome. 666 tricks in a row.

Crandon, really? You love the butter flat water, which you won't get at Crandon...last I heard, you can't go in the sand bar shallows, has been restricted to lessons only...best check with management? Try Matheson Hammock instead for real butter flat smooth (and shallow) on low tide.

3/2 shorty is the most you should need.

Check water temp and other data here:
http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page.php?station=fwyf1

last five days water temp at Fowey Rocks (in centigrade no less!)

Thx SF! Shorty should be fine then!
Celsius is fine for me, have no clue about Fahrenheit ;-)

Matheson Hammock sounds good! Will consider! Works with all Easterly winds?

Toby,
On the Fowey Rocks web site, you can toggle between different units, look in the upper 1/3 of the page for the "Unit of Measurement" box as it will probably default to US units:

For Matheson, no problem in NE to E to SE. North is no good, South is no good, W impossible. However, if you want to go out in the bay chop, you can on a N or S...but we won't be able to see your jumps/tricks.

Parking lot at bottom of image is where you launch from. Check in with the concession for the rules of the spot.

Hallo Toby,

Looking forward to finally meet you in person. A spring suit should be sufficient to keep you warm under normal conditions. Should there be a cold front generating a good wind you will prefer a full ⅔ suit as the air temperature can drop to 15 celsius during a cold front. Otherwise a shorty is sufficient as the water temperature is above 22 celsius. My son and I we might also join you for the TRIO in the Cayman Islands. Call me when you arrive in Miami, as I would like to join you to go kiting. My favorite is Crandon even though they have rules. Best wind and water conditions.
Bis bald,
Johannes
