Just recently had my kite fly away due to my leash popping off while crashing unhooked. Is there a good leash out there? and who makes it?

What leash were you using?? I have the slingshot bungee. Not saying it's the best one.

if u peel back the cloth and look underneath there is usually some 3mm dyneema or spectra which is rated at about 2,500 pounds. I have snapped leashes two or three times when I look at it afterward it's usually because there is wear near the quick release. It would be nice if they put some 5mm dyneema underneath rated at about 5,000, but I don't know of any leashes that make them that strong. You can probably prevent leashes from snapping if you replace them at the same time you replace your kite lines. You can't see the wear because it's covered. It's good exercise chasing your kite, but like you I prefer not to do it. I would like to replace one of these 3mm dyneema lines with 5mm and sew back on the cloth covering, but don't have a leash design that will fit thru the QR's that I am using right now. I am tempted to make my own leash from scratch, buy the QR, dyneema, and sew on some elastic and cloth.

Broken a bunch of leashes, it seems more about wear and age then the manufacturer, in many cases. Also seems most of the broken leashes I have witnessed were older then a year or two, sun faded, salt caked etc.
I currently use the 2014 North leash it has a cover over the hook so you don't get fish hooked through the hand, the hook is covered with a nice float that makes it hard or impossible to unhook/ release by accident and keeps it neat in the water a simple easy to grab release and corrosion resistant hard ware..
I try and replace mine twice a year or more and have not yet broken a North leash, although I am sure some one has.
Good luck.

I cant say which is the strongest but I have towed making them plane both stranded snorklers and swimmers with my naish leash. Though I'm sure its not supposed to be able to do that..

For me flexifoil has the best one. A nice feature is the swivel. Ive found out when you pass a lot the bar in the same direction other leashes get undone because of this, not if you have a swivel.
