Well Old Broken Big D's Favorite fan boy, Sounds like you designed the kite for Big D... I guess we should all just take your word for it and assume its as good as the other kites tested and ignore the Average Joe's being that you designed the kite and know exactly how it performs and Bid D posted all the testimonials and pictures. ITS GOTTA BE THE BEST.Oldnbroken wrote:Absolute horseshit.Xtream wrote:Personally I think it may even be a design flaw with the Infinity...
looking at ALL the pictures and videos Dimitri posted I see some serious conning on the trailing edge of this kite.
I had a kite that looked like that several years ago. It really flew like shit, I let a few guys ride before I returned it and they thought it had power, well It had pull in the hook but it dragged you downwind as soon as you let off your edge slight bit.
Looked just like the pictures of the Infinity
Conning in the trailing edge is a recipe for a downwind drag dog of a kite.
I guess some riders like the feeling of the pull on the hook. If that's you kind of kite the Infinity may be for you.
Big D you may want to open up that trailing edge a bit and let it breath a bit.
You won't get that silly feeling of power that does nothing for performance.
The infinity and the Fat Lady do not have a defective leech line issue or a design flaw related to cupping or leech problem.
Momi has designed great flying kites for Epic and Blade (and others) for years, to try to say otherwise is just you piling on and talking talking talking about kites you have not flown.
The Infinity and the Fat Lady belong to that group of lower aspect lightwind kite that is specifically made to be different from the larger "apparent wind" group.
There are lots of us out there who like how those kites fly and have no problem getting them to go upwind, produce plenty of power and perform exactly as we like them to.
The Infinity/Fat Lady/Big Mama etc work better in our light wind conditions than the higher aspect monster kites.
My local crew had 7-8 Zephyrs, Turbines etc. here at one time...the last Zephyr is for sale right now.
We need lightwind kites to turn fast, and relaunch fantastic...because they ALL are going to drop out of the sky at some point during most lightwind sessions, in non-coastal wind.
We need to be able to "figure eight" them quickly when the wind drops to almost zero, while we bob around and wait for the wind to cycle back up.
Those of us here that still bother with lightwind kites, pair something smaller and faster with a good directional board to have fun on the light days, otherwise we don't waste our time.
It is hilarious to hear these arguments from those of you living in lightwind coastal locations because ALL OF THESE LIGHTWIND KITES WORK PERFECTLY WHERE YOU ARE, your conditions are so easy, it's a joke.
I'll just ignore the Average Joe's' who put forth a very complete review of what they experienced. NOT........
I decided to jump in on the bullshit band wagon and give my opinion based on all the visuals I saw posted. I mean it looks just like the crap kite I had a few years ago, what other conclusion would I come to... Did you see that trailing edge and the video it looks like its about to back-stall. Sounds kinda like the bullshit you write.
Unlike the review for OceanAdventures which I really appreciate (Thank you) it will save me time and money when I decide to demo and buy a new kite after the dumping the crappy kite it ride now that sucks at relaunch and has limited wind range of 10-30 mph and won't let you down after a jump. BTW I was not comparing my current kite to the Infinity I never mentioned what I ride. I'm actually in the market for a new kite.
That being said This is the reason for the thread, Thank you OceanAdventure for your reviews
I believe the actual review has been lost behind all the needless defense. So here is it again in summary.
In lighter winds, 9knots and below the Infinity wants to pull you down wind and it is hard to hold any line. 10-12 knots it's a decent kite with plenty of power and starts to ride upwind better. 14 knots and up the kite gets overpowering and is not as comfortable to fly.
Dimitri's videos just reinforce all of these points.
The point why we don't recommend this kite in light wind is because there are kites that you can ride upwind in less wind, and ride past 13-14 knots and still be comfortable and having fun.
Most people are not going to buy a large light wind kite and then have a 14m kite also. Bigger guys will have fun on their light wind kite until the wind is too much and then will ride a 13-12m kite.
You could go out and get a C-kite and probably get just as good performance in the small wind range of the Infinity, without the good relaunch of course. And guys who's style would compliment the infinity would probably be happier with a c-style kite.
They were talking about how they were getting big air in 10 knots back in 1999, so in our opinion the Infinity, which when it came out in the beginning had speed on the bigger light wind kites, now really as nothing to offer different that other kites now do better in a bigger range of winds.
