Garmin aren't renowned for their compassionate aftersales/ support....

(Having seen n heard stories from cycling/ MTB).

There is visible corrosion on the connectors, this is after I clean off the green crud.

Sucks to hear about your bad luck. Sad to see such negativity about the product. I am still very happy with mine. Time will tell I guess.

What I can tell from the brochure is that the camera is water proof up to 1m. They even specify on the Garmin Virb site that it is waterproof "incidental immersion for up to 30 mins at a depth of 1m". This doesn't mean you can surf with it. surfing creates a lot more water pressure than 1m immersion.
If you kite or surf with this camera you really should use the waterproof case.

The camera was mounted on the helmet, it never got submerged, only some splashing. What is so ridiculous is they deny warranty even this is a genuine product. Consumer became their pawn in their price fixing scheme. This is a way they control the dealer to sell at a fixed price. That is why American Consumers pay the highest mobile service in the world.

this is typical for garmin easy to use products when they work but just don't expect them to last long or stand behind them. I have had some expensive Garmin ($4000+units on my boats and they all had water intrusion issues within a year or 2 and that's just sitting at the helm. Even my garmin forerunner died and that was just in a cooler pocket on the beach for a couple of hours so my advice is just look elsewhere :nono:

If it was mounted on your helmet and you did not crash then IMHO Garmin should replace it, but i guess they will also need proof. I always thought Garmin costumer service is top notch, guess i was wrong.

I have been using my virb a ton. Kiteboarding and Cycling. You can move between displays to see current speed, heartrate, elevation, distance, gforce, time and other add on components. When i'm not recording I like to mount it on my bar just to know my speed and current time.

Don't know if this will work, but try some Caig Deoxit on the contacts. It does wonders with electronics and cameras. Sucks that Garmin would not at least service the unit for you.
