I'm back after a 20 year break

Postby Uncle Jimmi » Fri Feb 28, 2014 2:44 am

I last flew 20 yeas ago in Palm beach on Singer Island.
I had several Hawaiian Team kites that I would stack 3 deep and fly in near hurricane winds.
I was a pioneer at jumping, sitting on heavy beach chairs and loading up enough pull to jump volleyball nets and sand skiing for miles. That was all before foil type kites.
I am re-entering the sky with a Peter Lynn Twister 5.5 and will be getting a 12 or 15 meter Charger as soon as I get used to modern kites.
I'm very excited and have been watching all the videos and will begin adding a few of my own starting next week when my kite arrives here at my new home in Michigan
Special thanks to Big Mike's Kites for helping me get back under a kite again.

Welcome back!

The Hawaiian Team kite was my first 2 line stunt kite and was a lot of fun to fly with its 6 foot wing span. I bought it after reading an article about it in Sports Illustrated, and I still have it.

I didn't know it at the time, but it was great training for when I took my first lesson on Maui in the new sport of kitesurfing, also on a 2 line kite, metal bar, leash velcroed on the wrist, alligator roll to uncross the lines, fixed bridle and no depower. There were only 2 students on kite beach and no one else on the water.

The equipment has improved a lot so you are getting back in at the right time!

Oh yea, to answer your question, I never was able to go in the water under the right conditions but was convinced my 3 pack had enough pull in winds above 30.
I tried in a lake with safety boat (heavy ski-master) but the wind wasn't strong enough that day.
I flew from the boat with my feet on the back rest and laying on the floor until being yanked into the sky as the boat turned into the wind. The boat can go 30 down wind leaving 10 for the kite but do a U-turn and 30 + 20 means I'm FLYING
