Laying out lines: Upwind or Downwind?

You just made a Good case for : "Lines Always On" .

You can do all of the same things in Crosswind "J" method. Put your bar upwind or crosswind from the kite. Run your lines slightly past the kite on the downwind side. Look and see your lines are straight. Flip your line manager 180 degrees toward the kite. Hook up and go.

I'm not sure you understand how to use a line manager, you connect your lines to your kite before running your lines.

You also seem to think the lines will lay flat without any tension in them in 25 knots of crosswind.

If i was Supa rich $$$$$$$$$$ i would buy all you guys on KF complete kites with lines on.....
....and conduct an experiment

Now...if all your kites had bar/lines ...would you leave them on ?

Or just by habit....still take them off ?

Prolly take them off the first couple times by sheer force of habit, then grudgingly leave them on, with a disapproving frown just to show my distaste, while secretly enjoying the simplicity.

EZ ,Cool I will always take a free kite!
I have 5 bars for my 5 kites, I disconnect after EVERY session and rinse everything but the kite, always have always will.
Just the thought of rigging a salty bar, lines gives me the creeps.

When I used foils, I used to leave enough line so the bar was on the outside of the bag, and put my lines in a big esky with water, so I still washed them. That's how I'd do it.

Setting up my lines is as painful as pumping up big kites, rather not have to do it.

But I can't justify a bar for each kite given the price of the damn things.

Plus I change bars as well depending on whether I'm doing an old school big air board off session (so bigger kite than normal), a freestyle powered flat water session or a wave session with a SB...I use a different bar with differences in low and high Y and setup for different types of riding..hence can't work for me this method.

Yep.... did just like Ozzy when i used to ride many different type foils

I apply that exact same technique now with all my LEI's

EZ 2 do ...leave enough slack lines so that bar stays outside the kite's LE or TE after it is folded...
.... and therefore is accessible outside the bag for rinse when you get home or at beach hose

Majority of people think that "leaving lines on" means that the bar/lines are rolled inside the kite

Well that is the wrong way....a wet bar/lines with sand on it should never be stored inside a kite

(i would think that for snow kiting it is not an issue since the bar is most likely dry and clean)

Looks like Squamish. Absolutely beautiful part of the world and a beautiful place to kite. It's a big river, so steep rocky banks and lots of towering trees... Right next to the "Sea To Sky Highway".

I'm guessing that's the only launch for miles.

Correct, it's the Squamish Spit ( https://www.google.ca/maps?q=49.686095,-123.178198 ). It's a great place to kite but we do have to wear full wetsuits all summer due to the glacier fed river outflow.

It's at the end of a Fjord so launch options are limited. There is another option though on the other side of the cargo terminal but it's an industrial site with some power line hazards so 95% of people use the Spit. We also have a full time jetski retreval service running from there because you can get in trouble pretty quick if things go wrong.

It's a smooth 25 knot thermal on sunny days for 6 months of the year though so it's hard to beat.

This should be fairly easy. If you are at a busy spot, then attach lines the same way everyone else is. Problems arrive when you do it different from everyone else.

Crowded day at one of our main spots....crazy days!! Son getting some crabs for dinner after our session. No probs with glacial waters...lol

We got 30 km of this, and ocean side is about 1km on the other side....less crowded there...bahahahahhahaa
