Pea Island "OBX" (closed for Kiteboarding)

Postby Dimitri M » Fri May 09, 2014 5:46 pm

Guys just wanted to let you know that PEA ISLAND has been closed for Kiteboarding. Just got a "Warning" from the (US & WildLife Service officer).
So in few words you are not allowed to kite in the sound or on the ocean starting from south of the Oregon bridge all the way down to Rodanthe.

Were you on the ocean or sound side? Did they give a reason or time duration for the closure?

It seems obvious that you can not park a car and kite (or do anything else) within the 3 mile construction zone for the newest New Inlet bridge. Were you outside this zone?

Dimitri, the kleptocrats (+ russians and germans?) are taking over the Greek coast line, and the socialist/fascists and "park service" are taking over NC, after they already shut down the Virginia coast for like 100 years, where are we gonna go next?
Will kiting turn into a "3rd world only" or "private beach only" sport?

Ranting aside, thanks for the warning. Some of the terrain around new inlet looks sweet, but I have always been afraid to invoke the wrath of the environazi officers. Maybe next year...

I’m surprised that you weren’t a good enough little sheeple to volunteer your SSN. Perhaps this extraordinary resistance to tyranny (which of course is necessary for your own good) indicates that you are actually a terrorist or an evil extremist. At least you gave Officer Secret Name your DL # like a good Amerikan - despite that you weren’t operating a “vehicle” for which a DL is required.

However, for those of us who might doubt the accuracy and/or truthfulness of Officer Secret Name’s allegation that you were violating some LEGAL regulation/law, perhaps you could state what the illegible portions say. Specifically, what is the “Offense Charged” and what is the “Offense Description” ? Hopefully, this info will provide us subversive doubters with the ability to actually LOOK UP the supposed regulation/law which you seem to have ADMITTED violating. It also looks like the time of the alleged “Offense” was “10:40 P.M.", which seems somewhat unlikely.

Thanks.

This is not "news", it has been like this for well over a year. You can look on the signs entering the refuge, right there at the bottom. It is not temporary, and not directly bird related like some other temporary closures. It was put in place when someone did a downwinder into New Inlet, and decided to land their kite in the power lines. Maybe not the reason, but the impetus. A lot of people have been given warnings since it started, I do not know of many people that have actually been fined. It is both ocean and sound, no launching or landing. Everyone I know that has received a warning are told that next time they will be fined. I believe 200.00, have not seen it written. There is really one 1 or 2 rangers patrolling this area, so since it has been in effect a lot of people may not have been warned or cited and therefore people may think this is new.

From the website updated 3/20/2013:
Kiteboarding and the use of Personal Watercraft are prohibited. :nono:

Unfortunately I have lost all patience with kiters who are too wimpy, gutless, apathetic etc. to even PRETEND (even if only as a BLUFF), that they think that they MAY still have some SHRED of their "rights" left - let alone actually make some minuscule ATTEMPT at preserving whatever may be left.

And the foregoing goes DOUBLE for people in the industry, who SHOULD be at the forefront.
