dear kite friends
the kite zone of porto botte south west sardinia has been closed by coastguard.
there is a foreign school mainly based at that spot..that with an insane way of teaching put at risk the safety of swimmers.
last summer season coastguard saw many times episodes very danger and gave some fines.
but in the end they realized that the practice of kitesurfing in that bay is completely out of control.
so coastguard doesn't renew the permit to play kitesurf in the whole bay during the summer season june-september..
that's a very bad for all community of kiteboarders that now loose one of the best spot in sardinia
all of us lost the pleasure to play kitesurf on a super nice spot..
for the risky work of a kiteschool that din't and doesn't respect the coastguard rules..and the basic and elementary rule: teach far away from people.
sincerely

Sad to Alessandro!
Is there no way to form a local kite club that works out things with the coastguard?
Get them involved, show them how to kite and I am sure there will be a way!
Good luck!

Please tell me that foreign school, was Not American ?
If you had some video of there activity, and also researched the number of tickets
given , ( and why) then maybe there's a chance you could get them kicked out , and
get your spot Back ?

Betcha it is not an ah-mere-ih-can school, most definitely. Odds are it is German, like the windsurfing one one I hung out with in the late eighties.
Wienerschnitzel bloodymary breakfasts topless wannabe windsurfer women campfires on the beach into the night tent-life bung ho gung ho good times but not much restraint.
No ser-prize if they went coastal. And pissed off the coast guard.

dear wind friends...
the authorization for the kitezone was and is on my name.
but i move all my teaching activities 2 season ago in another spot..and i kept alive the kite zone last summer to allow that school to work and to allow all kitesurf community to enjoy that spot
but one of their student went to the hospital..with a big article on local newspaper.
coastguard realized that group is completely out of control, they observed many other problem regarding lesson close to swimmers..or their beginners reaching the crowded beach....riding the baord rather than reaching the shore in body drag.
they completely piss off on the safety rules..and the coastguard that has to preserve le life of everybody decided to don't renew the permit to play kitesurf in the whole bay..
now thanks to that school, the kitesurf is gameover in porto botte.
and the funny thing is also their job is game over.
talk about names now..is useless....it isn't possible to drink again when the bottle is broken.
the only fact is that we loose one kite spot.
and who was there knows what stupid stoned school i'm talking about.

Don't give up!
Work out a plan with the support of the local kiters.
Found a club and give it a membership with guest memberships.
Those memberships can be taken away if someone does not respect the rules.
Work out rules that respect and save the swimmers.
Authorities will have to respect that and valuate it, I am sure.
Because a foreign school disrespected it you should not suffer from it as locals.
From Italians to Italians some talks should be able.
Doesn't anyone of the kite locals have a personal contact to the authorities?

Alex I totally agree with Toby…
A foreign school that kicks out the locals????!!!
No f way, that is no right…
Get together, put a plan and some rules down and bring a bottle or two to capitaneria
And then maybe put a ban on foreign schools altogether!

dear friend i'm agree with you too.
but in italy if you have a kite zone on a public beach everybody can access it.
in italy we don't have rules like as example to practice kitesurf you have to be iko, vdws, or bksa certified kiteboarder.
and me i don't have the authority to decide who can play kitesurf, i don't have the authority to make fines..
i'm going to open a new kite zone in the beautiful baach of porto pino, it's like caribe...there i'll make the kite zone inside a private beach. so will be super easy to control who play kitesurf and keep safe the spot.
about porto botte after one max 2 years that school will leave sardinia..because they rent an expensive place nore than 20.000€/year to make their base/bar/restaurant at 600 mt from the public kite zone.
now that no kite zone..no kite in porto botte...they will leave who gonna like to be their customer.
that school that in the beginning looks made from nice people...it's just another cancer for kiteboard community...
and the extreme decision to ban kitesurf in that bay...it's the only medicine that can destroy that cancer.
all the best alessandro
