Trying to decide what kite and boards to pack to go to Cabarete in July.
I'm 175lb, experienced rider
I have three kites (Cabrinha SB's) 8M, 11M, 14M
I have three boards 137, 145, and 154
We're flying in so bag weight must be less then 50lbs. I can do either combination:
#1 - all three kites (8, 11, and 14) and the 137 board. The 137 is my main board that I ride in normal to high wind conditions.
#2 - two kites (11, 14) and the 137 and 145 board. Its nice to have the 145 if the wind lightens up, but its not a true light wind board.
Any advice from people that have been to Cabarete in July? Do you need a 14M? Do you need an 8M? Combo #2 s more for an average wind place (like Bahamas or Caymen's, someplace you rarely need an 8M and its nice to have a medium board to exxtend the range of the 14M). Combo #1 has all kites so covers the most range. I'm probably going to do #1 but wanted to get some feedback.
Also, do you need to bring a pump? Are the schools on the beach cool and let you borrow theirs or should you just bring your own. Where I live (Florida) anyone will let you use their pump, but don't know how it is in the DR.
Any other advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks

I have not been to Caberete but am in the process of researching it, just like you.
Things people have told me:
Wind is weak in the AM, strong in the PM due to thermals.
There is an outer reef where waves break, then an inner bay area that is flat/choppy. Waves are medium sized at best (eg, its not Teahupoo).
Finally, Toby is in Caberete right now so maybe just shoot him a direct PM and ask him questions.

I'm just finishing one week in Cabarete. Windy every day! You do not need 14. When the wind starts there is about one hour while it builds when some guys fly large foils and such. But even then an 11 would work. 2 hours later about 3 it's 8 meter. Kite beach is a crowd, cabarete is more open but more chop. Reef outside does get breaking waves 2-3 ft up to 6 depending on swell. This varies daily. Your board size is up to your preference but 154 seems way too big.
I can't comment on compressor issues because would depend on place. I brought a pump and used it 50% time. Bring good sunblock!

I was on 18 every day in Cabarete!
Depends on your style
Most people used between 9-12.
Winds are between 15-25 knots.
I will see you there!
