Ram Airs (Flysurfer, Ozone Chrono) crashing in 2014

Postby Pump me up » Wed Jun 25, 2014 3:40 am

Well, here we are, midway through 2014.

Despite the overhyped and proud boasts from ram lovers, eg viewtopic.php?f=1&t=2384063, the Ozone Chrono is CRASHING in 2014.

Ridiculous CLAIMS abounded, such as a low end ability of < 7 knots and CLAIMS that the Chrono would dominate race events in 2014.

It hasn't happened. The Chrono has been found to be as deficient as other ram airs. Its low end is 7-8 knots, at best. It is INFERIOR on downwind legs (collapsing, twisting, etc). Relaunch is a nightmare. It is highly prone to wineglassing and collapsing. It is unstable in gusty conditions. Despite the overhyped claims, the Chrono does not rank in any well subscribed race and has not cracked the top 10 in PKRA race results.

As indicated at the outset, the Chrono is as aerodynamically INFERIOR as other ram airs and cannot compete with inflatables in racing, low end, or freestyle.

Ignore the LIES. Ram airs are grossly inferior compared to inflatables.

Pumpy I think you got a Typo here, replace all "Chrono" with All "Strutless" and than it's going to make sense :argue:

You are funny, pumpy.

I think you overlooked the races that Johnny Heineken won this spring using the Chrono and foilboard.

Also, I have been learning to foilboard this spring and consequently putting my kites in the water quite a few times. I have Flysurfer Speed 3 DLX in 19 m and 12 m and a Speed 4 DLX in 10 m. My relaunch success rate is 36/37 or 97%. It is good enough for me. I also have a Core Riot XR3 12 m which I really like a lot. It's a really super kite. But I enjoy the convenience of not pumping most of the time. And the performance (upwind ability, wind range and "smoothness") of the foils seems a little better to me.
