Any advice for a beginner kitesurfer?

I have recently bought a training kite as I will be have kite surfing lessons and I would like to know if there are any movements I should be practising to save time on the course. Any sort of movements that are fundamental to know.

You can try to park it at 11 or 1 o'clock.
Fly in figure 8.
If it is not a 4 line depower trainer, then You should get one that works like the full size kite.
Don't play with the 3 line kite too long.

Learn to fly it up and down smoothly on one side of the wind window with one hand and a harness line. Then one hand without looking right at it. Then standing on one food as well(cause the board will feel like that at first!)

+1 on Phil's comment, also, if you have a cable park available or a friend with a boat and wakeboard, get some board time in before your lessons.

Get lessons with a reputable school (not just any dude off the beach)
Always use a helmet and PFD
Buy used gear or last year's model on sale
Use a biggish board and smallish kite for your weight and wind strength
Make friends with other kiters on the beach (you will need their help one day) and ask questions, listen
Never ever kite alone

Just get to the point where you know where the kite is going and can fly by feel. Try to get to a 4 line kite and the lesson sooner than later. Learning how to fly a 4 line kite and getting the whole bar movement down will be the hardest part. With a 4 line kite, you can not only steer the kite, but push the bar away or pull it towards you to trim the kite.

This is where you will earn your wings when you can learn how to control a kite well especially in lighter winds. Medium to strong winds are much easier to learn how to fly a kite. Once you can keep a kite in the sky when there's hardly any power in the kite is what takes time and practice.

Here is a good video on how to fly a trainer kite but I would recommend sticking with the lessons on a real kite and never look back to the trainer. When I teach my students I usually spend very little time, 15 mins max, unless their kite control is really really terrible.

Thank you very much for the tips. I will be having the lessons I about 3 weeks and so far I can control the kite in the figure 8 and in other you have told me. However I only have a 2 line kite (hq rush 300) as I bought it just to get a understanding of the wind window and to gain some experience with a kite.
