North nugget foil board mod

Postby antonell0 » Tue Jul 08, 2014 6:24 pm

Hi all,
after modifing a north rocketfish with 4 inserts for a Moses with success (8 months working great), I'm planning to modify a north nugget with a tuttle (spotz) + inserts (moses).
Do you have any experience using 2 parallel US boxes instead fixed inserts?

This should allow a nice range of positions. I found that, as my level improves, I need to move quite towards the tail my foil (at least 5-6cm)
cheers,
Antonello

Spotz uses normal Tuttle box.
I was thinking to add two US boxes correctly spaced, for a 4 points plate. Each with two threaded mini plates, maybe hold in place with some EVA stripes.

Those Chinook boxes are designed for small windsurfing fins and are nowhere near strong enough for a foil in my opinion.

Be aware that if your foil falls off your board it will sink.

Not worried about strength. US mast box + stringers + Tuttle box in the middle will be solid rock.
I'm more worried about the real usage of this system vs fixed 4 (or maybe 8) anchor points.

I have installed tuttle box into my board and found no need to support with american fin boxes. Your tuttle box is 1 3/4" deep cut bottom of board 7 x 5 inches wide. Take all foam and stringer out leave only top deck alone and laminate 5 layers of glass or carbon on under side of deck attach tuttle. Sapport around tuttle with vincel and thick resin mix a lot micro balls to make laminate light. Re-cover bottom with extra layer of class. Support of box is mainly on the deck with your screw hole is so, use a big washer. Also if wanted more support add a extra layer or two of class under foot around box area.

rowboat has some experience with his nugget ask him for some advise on how he would place it. viewtopic.php?f=196&t=2385269

I have a 2012 Nugget with an F-Box installed for an Alpinefoil. Mike Z @ mikeslab.com did the install of the box, so I can't speak to the details of the layup, but he knows what he's doing and it is super clean and strong. The Nugget makes a great foil platform.
