Hi everyone,

probably boring for everyone else than me, but can't resist on sharing some good news:)

And the good news is this:
DSC01235 (Small).JPG
I've never ever used a spray gun in my life and still do not have a compressor:( Using my fridge pump as one plus an 7L high pressure PVC pipe:) I might add 7L more which will give me bigger air volume.

But, this baby is a waaay faster and better than using a brush:) Low pressure, 40-60psi, low volume.

Used 10ml of varnish only + thinner 30%, and after finished still got some varnish left! Awesome.

With a brush used about the same. So hoping one or two passes on my boards will do. Instead of 5:)

Enjoj

D.

PS
35-43psi not 40-60...

PSS

Updated broken photo.

Hate to burst your bubble. But gravity feed is the way and the light.
What you can do at 40-60 psi with a suction gun you can do at 20psi with gravity feed. Plus there's less wastage. no need to extra paint/varnish.

Use filters religiously when pouring into the gun!.

PS Here's some of my paint jobs for the kids boards. A combination of gravity gun, airbrush and hand painting.

Huh,

where were you before I've got this one?:)

Nice looking boards tho! Who is the artist?

PS

Pls do tell more about the filters?! What are u using?
I did noticed a spray spitting some granules but that might be my pump as well...

don't worry it will still work.

Look out for gravity feed in the future. The artist? a combo of my wife and myself.

Go to an automotive paint supply place and get some little "china mans hat" type filters. You can usually buy 50 or so for $10. Its just a small mesh filter in a paper hat thing. It keeps out small bits that will clog the gun. I got way better performance once I started to use filters each time.

At the same time get a little water trap/filter for your air supply too. Oil and water from the compressor can get into the line. if that happens...... not so good on your paint job!

Finished spraying. I don't know if the difference is visible but it's considerable better:)

It looks really cool. Now I'm thinking to scrap the Corecell from the inside and use just a soft closed cell foam, maybe 2 layers...

Hi guys

the season started here in Oz. I've finally got the straps on my helmet and started using it

Very light, like not wearing a helmet at all. One test I'll try to do and that is a jump in the water with it. First from small height to see how it reacts, bucketing or not...Will be interesting:)

I am still looking for some molds, my plaster one is not perfect. If anyone has some ideas would be great to hear. One idea is a foam model of e b a y, but they are too small...

The straps are secured with a small piece of plastic off my skiing helmet.

BTW: Hiko sports started making carbon helmets again ($$$:) : http://www.hikosport.com/vibe-1464/

Cheers

Hi,

I've updated all FB links to the old photos since they were broken (prev. page).

The new skin helmet is going well. The construction is the same, I've opted for the Carbon twill which conforms really well to a 3D shape.

Some light sanding before more epoxy and than varnish, a lot of it:)

After a lot of tinkering about the inside protection, I might use 5mm neoprene which should conform well.
