I just don't get it, why some people can't take 2 minutes (or even an hour) of their time to check or help another person in the water. If I see a kite go down and if it isn't relaunched within a minute or so I always go check, whether I have to go way downwind or way upwind. It just seems like the right thing to do...the only thing actually. Not to contradict myself (that we are on our own) but sometimes a few moments can make all the difference in the world during a water emergency.

I haven't read anything that said it was a kiting accident, maybe I missed it, but all I read was that he was found deceased.

There is a difference between a kiting accident and a death that occurred while kiting. Not that one is less tragic or sad than another.

I too am one that always kites alone. I am the only foil flyer in my area and past experience has taught me that i am better off alone , safety wise.

YES --- Kiting Alone is NOT a Good idea ; and the "Why" should be taught in kite-school !!

Wasn't the guy that just died in the PNW ; wasn't he Also kiting Alone ?
And he wasn't even a Beginner !!

If you see a buddy go down, and he stays down for a while ; in a Lot of cases, Ya got
a few minutes to administer CPR in order to bring him back.

ME -- i just don't wanna get eaten by wild critters ,while i'm dying in the desert , somewhere
on a Mohave shore-line.

You might want to ditch your false sense of security. I'm sure there have been a lot more deaths when other kiters are present then not.

I personally believe if you aren't comfortable riding alone, then you should still be considered a student.

Yes, shit can go wrong.... But how is another kiter going to help in a deathloop situation?


I prefer being the only person out. If i had to rely on the douches at my beach to come save me, i'd be a dead man anyway.

Some of Ya are forgetting , that I'm the one who rides thermals up to 17,000-ft (5000M)
up in the air , on a HG or PG ; Ya wanna talk about being "Alone" some more ?

If your showing up to some kite spot , that has a bunch of schmucks Ya don't
know or like ; that would be the same as kiting Alone.
I Don't Do that ; i go with Friends. Any of you ever heard of a FRIEND ?

I have a Lot more friends that fly a HG or PG, than i do kite boarders. I'm beginning
to see why ; you guys are a lot different. Even at Mohave , there is a Sharp contrast
between the kiters that i get along with, and the ones that i Don't ; probably the reason
i fly a glider, more than kite board , (A Lot more).

I'm sorry that you Don't have the cognitive resources to realize , that if
he Did have a heart-attack while kite boarding "Alone" ; CPR most certainly, ( Could have)
brought him back , if administered with-in a few minutes
AND IF
he had bin kiting with a Buddy who knew How to give the life-saving technique !!
