I'm interested in hearing from the folks with experience too, but for the time being...

I too am traveling to Hawaii and asked the same question of a buddy with this experience. I also am traveling Delta. I've decided to ship my stuff (UPS) rather than use the golf bag.

This is pure supposition, no facts, just hearsay. "The airline folks in Hawaii know what's in that bag". In other words they know the deal because of the popularity of the sport there. They then will charge you over-sized bag fees and overweight fees if more than 50lbs (70lbs medallion). So you might have a good outbound experience, but returning you may have to pay the $150+ to Delta.

So shipping via UPS (<$150) is a good insurance policy and no-hassle risk avoidance measure, for me anyway.

Just flew México to NC and Back With Delta.
Had 2 *50 Lbs bags with me including a kite golf bag.
Paid 25usd for the first one and 40usd for the second.
I usually put the TT boards on the bottom of the golf bag underneath the bottom plank.
I don t say I have any board as they anyway can t see it even if they open the bag.
I use an Epic golf bag, http://epickitestore.3dcartstores.com/T ... _p_50.html

What sizes were your bags guys? I've got a 150cm Mystic Gear Box and it definitely doesn't fit their max total of 157cm for length+width+height but I don't think a 140 bag would fit that either. So I'd love some input on what they judged it on and if they brought that up.

Many thanks!

Hey,

Thanks for these informations, looks ok to travel with a standard kite bag, few $$ in a worst case. Have you any experience travelling with Delta and a surf bag ?
