Who is Rick Lossi and what does this have to do with South Florida kiteboarders? I'm very familiar with the Huguenot having kited there exclusively in 2011 and 2012.

no idea what you guys are talking about, I know florida recently passed that sb 320 or whatever it's called that goes into effect oct 1 that regulates parasailing but I thought the bill said nothing about kiteboarding, not sure what this has to do with losing launches.

not from florida couldn't tell the difference between miami and orlando but I am curious how you lost your launches so we don't make the same mistake here

This is terrible to hear but my understanding of this bill http://flsenate.gov/Committees/BillSumm ... 4/html/720 is that it basically only prohibits kiteboarding within 1mile of an airport. Are there that many airports in North Florida or is that all the good spots are close to airports? Is a 1mile radius unreasonable?
Am I missing something here?

Huguenot Park is within 1 mile of the runway at Mayport Naval Station.

sorry to hear that kitester.
but this is clearly the behavior pattern of the kiters who really see the IKO as the source of their financial income. in my place some kite instructors start to join the IKO to gain some advantage compared to the independent instructors. the word "international" was the lure despite the IKO has no legality in most countries whatsoever!
but some of those IKO related persons would see themselves as legitimate opinion leaders!

i was stupid enough to sign the FL kite spots petition before i learned that lots of beaches there are restricted by IKO or local private clubs memberships. you guys should see it coming!
you are either all together or you are picked one by one. first simple kiters, not members of the clubs and friends of the blood-sucking IKO instructors, then there will be their turn!

good luck getting your spots back...

"Huegenot pais is within 1 mile of mayport naval station"... Hugenot park i found on google was this tiny pond - could not beleive thats where y'all kited! Now i am guessing there is another Hugenot park further north by NAS. I think a 1 mile buffer is crazy for us - should be more like 400m at most

The pond area was used for kiting. It is one of the only places I know of in the area for a West wind. That is only part of the park though. It goes out to the Atlantic. Most of the beach area in the park is now off limits as well as the "pond".

If this is the case, we'll be losing several spots here in the Tampa Bay area, mainly Lassing Park and Cypress.
Ricki- I recommend you get on here and explain exactly what transpired with this ban as best you can, sir.
I look forward to hearing from you. :jump:

Hmmm... I googled Huguenout Memorial Park and this came up

Buzzing kids in the water, lame beach jumping, buzzing the beach for no good reason and your trying to pin the blame on kiters in Southern Florida? Looks like locals could use some reigning in...

The park is really close to an airport.
