Dynobar (sliding spreader bar)

Postby IanNJ » Wed Aug 27, 2014 12:28 pm

Hey all. I have been on the Mystic 2face and not super thrilled...love the idea but after an hour it is starts to hurt. I got about 10 dynabars in for my shop and wanted to know what people thought? What are the pros and cons of rope vs. the pro wave sliding bar?

Did not care for the sliding bar, I do like the rope.
I use the U shaped version that swivels from a single center point.
Like a hook that swivels on a U bolt.

The rope is awesome for wave riding hooked in. No need for the sliding bar. Hips feel a lot freer for surfing the wave. If one wants to unhook then they would need the sliding bar and bungee so it stays centered and easier to hook back in.
Speaking of which I need a new rope. Its getting a bit worn...

Ive had the v4 for ever. Only option then was the bar. Just purchased the v7 xw. Rope only version. It took me a couple days to get used to it but i like it a lot more now. Doesnt hurt my ribs at all now. 321kiteboarding has them on sale for $105 shipped. $16 for spare rope which came with 4 spare ropes and 16 gromets. I agree though if you like to unhook its hard to find the hook again with the rope. I ride strapless 99% of the time but the rope is still good for jumping. I always ride hooked in so changing to the rope was a big upgrade for me.

Yep, I am a very happy V7 user with the rope as well. I bought the whole XT harness and have since gone back to my impact vest with a built in harness, which I now like much better with the V7 spreader bar. When I first started using it, I was surprised at the fact that it didn't feel much different from a fixed hook, that is until I turned toe side, and then I liked it even more. The only downside I can think of is that it is a little difficult to hook up to when floating in deep water. Its an excellent spreader bar.

Love my v7 with rope, would never go back to fixed hook.

The rubber bungee straps finally wore out on mine. Replaced them with shock cord...easy DIY (for a part I suspect isn't really needed anyway).

Rope is starting to wear too...I am cheap, don't plan to spend $18 on a stock replacement part....pretty much any rope of the right size should do, no?

I hear that people like it rope only, but what is the difference? What are the benefits or drawbacks of either bar or rope only?

I've been riding with the wave bar this season and like to jump (took about a day to get used to, and my goofyfoot jumps were better on the fixed hook for whatever reason). The metal bar slides smoothly and feels really solid for jumping. The hook is pretty stable during rotations.

Those of you on rope only, do you also ditch the bungee? Besides centering the hook for easy re-location, is there any reason to keep or replace the bungee?

On another note, how about the difference between the 13" and 11"?
I picked up the 13, but it barely fits my ion harness (32-33" waist)

and just to add, never going back!
