I can never afford to replace a quiver at a time, it's more a rotation of a single kite per year. I'm going to get a 2014 9m on basis of your advice, a better price now 2015 are out. I love my ten(2011) but it's getting worn. So will have 8, 9, 14, I can't get my head round that !
Well, it was a redesign so the platform changed. I thought the 2011/2012s were small for their size. When I was flying my 10 and people asked what size kite I had up, I'd always say "it's a small 10." I think SS caught on to the trend of everybody making kites bigger these days. Anyway, now when people ask what I have up I say, "It's a big 9." LOL

Somewhere I had an old post comparing the sizes, but I couldn't find it. Here are some pictures I had taken of the 2012 14M laid on top of the 2014 14M (which I ended up selling and buying a 12M instead). pic 1, pic 2, and you can see slight changes in the wingtip in pic 3.

You'll like the 2014s...but as a mixed quiver it is going to be shocking because they do fly a lot different. It'll take some adjustment. You know how on the 2012s you wouldn't feel like you had enough power to jump, but then you did? We kind of got used to a very subtle feel of the kite and trusting the power was there. With the 2014 you feel the power and will know there is enough to boost. Still has great drift, relaunch, self land/launch, and is much more solid when overpowered.

Ta for the pics. I always thought jumping from a 14 to 10 felt way different anyway, so I'll just adjust I guess.

For those who are replacing older slingshot rally's with newer. I bought a new 9m rally 2014 to replace my 2011 10m. based on forum comments. Kept the 10 just in case. I laid one on top of other, same size ! Flying it feels same power, but smoother, and is enough of a jump from my 8m. Strange but true. Sooo, improved low end and slower turning just means it's a bigger kite IMO.I now have a 8,(2011) 9, (2014) and 14(2011) which really messes with my head, but is actually pretty spot on out on the water. So thanks mr aargh, your assessments were spot on. Slingshot, I understand going from RPM or fuels may have different power characteristics for same sizes, but in the same range this is just a bit crap.

All the above said, if I were to replace my Slingshot RPM 14 metres (2010) for a 2015 Rally, would it be recommended to go for the 12 metres? or stick to the 14 metres.

my main preocupation is to keep a kite in my quiver (have Rally 8 and 10m) for light wind but with power (I weight 93kg).

Thanks in advance for the suggestions!

Get the 12M with the 23" bar.
It's the same size as your 2010 14.
The 2013-2015 14M is huge. If you need more low end, get the 14m, but if you're happy with what you have now, get the 12. I'm 83kg and I don't need more than a 12, I used to have your 14. YMMV.

Hi CaptainArgh,

would you say these differences in sizes also occurs from 2013 Rallys to 2015 Rallys?

I have 8m and 10m 2013 Rallys, and if I were to change them for 2015 Rallys, should I go for 7m and 9 m?

thanks in advance,

Francisco

not the Captain but
actually, the size change happened between the 2012 and 2013. Since then the sizes have been consistent but the turning speed has changed a bit. So, if it has the mini-struts the sizes are about the same.

Yup, to the best of my knowledge, knotwindy is spot on.

There have been subtle tweaks from 2013 to 2014 to 2015, but no reason you can't use the same methodology and even mix & match years.
