I am in SA and am really battling to get insured for public liability. does anyone have any suggestions or is anyone aware of where you would stand if your kite triggered a huge accident?

where u would stand?
well - in deeeeeeep shit......
many kiting-associations
offer an insurance when u join.
and some insurances offer kiting if you ask.
but always get it in written form - accept nothing they just tell you.
explain the sport and ask what they can do.
a windsurfing-only insurance won't pay.....

Contact the American Kitefliers Association about second party liability coverage. To my knowledge it is the only coverage available in the USA today for individual kitesurfers. The $200k coverage is available for the incredibly reasonable annual membership fee of $30. USD. The AKA website is at:
http://aka.kite.org/.
