I need a bigger kite to match my 7.5 Rhino.
I weigh 50Kg and would like a low wind Kite.

I've had a lot of fun with my North so I wanted to stick with the brand.

So......

Should I go for a 12m or 16m Rhino or...
A 12m or 16m Toro... or...
Wait and see what the 2003 rhinos are like?

Thanks in advance

12 Rhino
For your weight & the wind you will be using it in you need the speed a Rhino will offer you.
16 would be too big for you once there was enough wind to fly it - IMHO

Thanks

Why 12m Rhino over 12m Toro (most people seam to rate the Toro over the Rhino)?

the 12 is good for you, you don't need bigger with your weight.

The Rhino has more jumping power than the Toro, but the Toro is easier to handle in gusts and relaunch.
Depending on your skills you should decide.
The Rhino 2 will have more lift than the Rhino 1, but at least it will take 4 weeks to be available and the Rhino 1 is quiet cheap at the moment.

My wife is your weight, so I think I can give good advice. We share our Rhino kites. She loves the 7.5 and 9.3, but is not thrilled with the 12 or 16. The 12 and 16 overpower her too quickly. My wife rides very powered on a wakeboard, so she can hold good power. I suggest you get the 12m Toro over the Rhino because the Toro depowers more fully. You can find used 9.3 Rhinos cheap because heavy guys found them too fast. The Toro 10m might be another good choice. You definitely can’t jump from the 7.5 to 16.

Just to complicate matters my local kiteshop has recommended a 14m Toro, I didn't know the kite existed.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated...Has anyone used this kite, whats it's windrange, etc etc

The windrange for the TORO 14 is for me (68kg, 25m lines) from about 9-10 knots with 2m directional up to about 17-18 knots with 160cm Twintip.
I think that you would get a better range with a TORO 12 in combination with your 7.5.

you have to test if the 12 will be enough for you and if not, get the 14.
The 12 will be more fun for jumps and tricks and restart, so if they start about the same low wind, you should prefer the 12.
The 14 may start earlier, but in gusts it will be hit harder. And due to the faster speed of the 12 you can compensate the 2 sqm more by flying it more active.

your decision....
