I am repairing a 12 inch crack and rail ding on a surf board. It is not worth taking to a professional and I have extensive experience working with fiberglass, but not repairing surf boards.
I was sanding the fiber glass with a disc sander and accidentally dug into the EPS core. How can I refill the void I created. I don't want to use fiberglass because it will create a stronger/thicker spot in the fiberglass.
Can I use Gorilla glue and let it expand to fill the void, remove the excess and glass or???
Also, how far should I sand from the crack on each side? Right no I am about 1.5 inches in each side, going from exposed EPS to untouched finish coat. I think this should be OK, but I thought I would ask to make sure I was not missing something.

Boardlady is a master at her craft. If you are a mere mortal, recommend to get some good quality laminating epoxy (test it on a bit of foam to make sure it does not MELT the EPS foam); mix a wee bit of epoxy with a lot of epoxy filler (little plastic bubbles you get from the epoxy shop) making a very lightweight putty. Clean out all dirt and loose foam, fill with the putty, let dry and sand to shape including at least 2 inches around the damaged area, then laminate 3-4 layers of good quality fiberglass (use as little expoxy as possible: less resin = stronger repair).

YEP !!
If you do a good job on the shaping of the piece of foam
you glued in ; it won't need any filler.
If you have any questions , ( Pm: Terrie ) he's probably, at least,
one of the most knowledgeable people on this forum , when it comes
to composites .
