Why do Firewire Tomo shapes work so well?

Ran across this one today. One of the biggest things that may not be well known is just how good of a surfer Daniel Thomson (TOMO) is. That translates to no misinterpretation from rider to shaper and another reason why Tomo's boards work so well. Been riding the Vader for a while now, by far best board under my feet to date.

Plus it's pretty sick to see what Stu Kennedy and Kelly Slater can do with them.

Get an Evo..I could not wait to get an EVO.

after researching the Vanguard and Vader i saw the Evo and thought that its the board for my conditions.
Built a 4-8 x 18 by copying it from images. But made it thinner with concave deck.
Been riding a Slingshot Celeritas 4 years and Spacepickle 1 year. This board is magic compared to them.
Not been out in real waves really-just wind waves up to waist high- but in light to highwind.

I´m making 2 more 4-10´s and a 5-4 that are refined by thinning even more and using real surfboard blank this time.

Your nuts if you think a knock off is going to feel like the Tomo shaped boards. Do yourself a favor and at least test ride one for comparison. Best surfers in the world riding and providing feedback on these boards. Don't think your going to find that with the knock offs so why bother? Unless you just like the looks, the ride won't compare which is the whole point of going with a board like this.

The Tomo boards are totally awesome and has set new industry standards, opening the eyes towards other shapes than classicly outlined curvy surfboards...but of course you can always make something really good even better with the proper approach and knowledge!

Me and a bunch of my friends (including several of the best kite-wave riders in Denmark) have made several iterations of boards from the original Tomo Vanguard and Vader shapes towards something that works even better with kite in especially Denmark where it is always super windy when we have waves, with more appropriate bottom contours, rocker and fin location - And we have tested directly agains the original Tomo shapes Vader and Vanguard, swapping several times during a session (Tomo = kite versions) and after testing them up agains each other we figured out we were on track with something that was feeling even better (a tad better flex in the constrution and more smooth riding through chop and uneven surface due to the bottom contours that breaks the water surface tension in the front section of the board)

We have also worked with deck-concaves and thinner profiles, it works extremely well but is a bit more tough to make strong enough due to the extra flex..

No plans of selling producs, just to gain knowledge and have absolutely awesome boards available always for the conditions we have around I could no problem ride the boards we have made so far for the rest of my life, given they could last that long which is not very likely (I´m a board abuser)

I understand they are better for airs & strapless tricks because you ride them shorter so they are lighter & swing better.
How are they going upwind compared to traditionally shaped surf style boards?
Where do they fail compared to Trad. boards?
How are they going down-the-line or cranking bottom turns & ripping top turns comparatively?
What conditions would you -not- use one vs. your favorite "other" directional?
