Yeah I know they are more of a buggy kite but they can be handy for learning due to their price and lightwind performance...

YEP!
I started on a 3.2m Quad & converted surf board over 3 years ago. I had the quad set up on a bar with the brakes on the ends. The kite is OK on land, but way too twitchy to start on the sea for a beginner.
Yes, they are cheap & you get alot of power for your money, but they are a false economy in my opinion. They are too fast through the air & when you load the kite it behaves very differently making it inconsistent. Also - if you drop it - which you are very likely to do you will never get it back up again - big swim. Thos float tubes are pants too.
All in all it's a very efficient kite at a very good price, but only in the right envoronment!
Yes - I know Kane Hartill used to kick arse with them, but that is one person out of hundreds of pros, & what is he using now???

Yeah I've also noticed that there is no-one home when you start edging... the kite shoots forward and dumps all it's power. That's if you set the brake lines too loose...
Set them too tight and you have no depower and you really have to edge real hard and end up getting carted downwind....
The small ones are far too fast for kitesurfing.. more for buggying.
The big ones are pretty good though and work remarkably well with wakeboards. Using the bar would make it even better...

He used C Quads quite a while ago and then switched to ARC's. Then he switched to Wipika and now he's with North...
He was probably using C Quads back when the best inflatable was the AR5.... and in light winds C Quads would do a number on any of those older inflatables...
Let's be honest though most kitesurfing events are held in moderate to strong winds (well they like to be held in these winds) and the best kite in a decent wind is definately NOT a C Quad....

Guess you know him really well then.
The c-quads existed in the same vintage as the wipika classics.
Two line with not that good preformance.
To be honest I would not recommend a C-quad as a begining kite as you will get rid of it sooner rather then later.
Good if you want to buggy or something though
sold my 8.5 for NZD$400 so I guess they are availible at good prices.
