Kite size vs. Snow depth

Postby Spam Dagger » Tue Jan 13, 2004 1:21 am

I was out this weekend in about 15 - 20 knts on a 7.2 blade and needed to go to a bigger kite. The snow was about knee deep and my board was constantly riding under the snow. I needed a lot more power to keep moving and would quickly come to a stop if I didn't have enough grunt. Normally on harder pack or less snow this would have been plenty of kite for the wind. How big of a kite change do others normally have to go to depending on snow conditions?

How long has it been since you waxed your board?

It makes a huge difference. A good wax job really only lasts a few sessions at most.

I ride my SS Fuel 16 in deep powder...it gives the lift necessary to float me on top of the fluffy stuff! Of course it gets a bit hairy at 18 knots. Then I break out the 12 m Fuel.
