Water repellent spray... again

Postby abel » Sun Mar 19, 2017 10:25 pm

I know that there were several threads regarding this topic, but I'm quite pissed off about how wet my kites get when they fall.
As a matter of fact, I almost forgot what is a wet kite until I started Hfoiling several months ago.
Two issues:

1- Hfoiling under 10 knots increases the odds of a wet kite.
2- When a single strut kite falls , the inner canopy has a good chance to touch the water, it gets WET and then sticks to the water :redangry:
Now try to relaunch.... :angryfire:
OK, you managed to relaunch, but the kite is f%@#!g wet heavy so the odds are that in the next lull you're for the swim-in allover.
I thought that the manufacturers already took care of this issue. :-?
So again, after kiting for fifteen years, I'm thinking about a spray to keep the kite dry when it falls. :crazy2:
Anyone tried and is satisfied with a good water repellent spray?

The best one I've found is called "Keep Your Kite in the Air"

Works better than any other product.

Yeah and that would mean flying your kite like a sissy that is too afraid to crash. No thanks.

When you crash just fly the kite until it is dry. Or you can man up and pack it soak and wet and full of sand.

I have used the product SealNGlide (Nanoprom) on both lei an foilkite.

It is was a solution based on nanoparticules, but I think it exists in spray. On the beach, it clearly shows that the water is ore deperlant. Seem to improve relauch on the water but hard to be 100 % sure (back o back test is quite impossible ...)

Oh if it's above 10knots yeah sure. But if it's under 10, not really like you are thinking about throwing handle passes and loops.

Oh nevermind, I forgot there are people who like to kite in under 10 knots of wind.

As much as I love unhooked and strapless riding, the feeling of being out there on a foil or even surfboard when everyone else in on the beach looking longingly at you is amazing. :naughty:

http://www.ultramar-products.com/en/sho ... t-coating/

buying this stuff since years, my kites last longer, stay light after crashing which is crucial with light wind hydrofoiling, etc.

Buy the liter can and spray it on.

This sounds contradictory but you add weight to your kite by spraying a product on it in order to save weight when it's wet?

I would say benefit trade off instead of contradiction.
You add a little more weight, lose a bit low end in the average, but can relaunch better and save the time to dry the kite before you can go out again.
