Wing STL files anyone?

Hey mcfly that looks pretty sweet. What are the profiles you used for that?

Here are the specs

- front wing area ~ 660 cm2 (root chord 12.5cm, tip chord 7 cm, span 66.5 cm)
- stab area ~ 180 cm2 @ -3 degrees
- foil profile Eppler 817
- Anhedral 5 degrees for front wing
- small vertical front wing tips

I'm a few designs into replicating a few foils I have seen. Do you have a problem with one that isn't MHL? I typically like class A surfacing but nailing the wing tips is challenging. Learning wings has helped me broaden my surfacing.

Not sure what you mean about the 360...are you taking about the wingtip? I almost have it nailed down...creating the continuity between the fat leading edge and .5mm trailing edge thickness was tough as hell for me.

Looks like a solid design, thanks for sending that. You kept the cross section angle of the foil correct which can get messed up on the 3d curve if not paying attention.

Not sure what you mean about the 360...are you taking about the wingtip? I almost have it nailed down...creating the continuity between the fat leading edge and .5mm trailing edge thickness was tough as hell for me.

360 is a budget design software which won't put out the same level of surfacing as say Alias. I learned surface modeling in the atmosphere/ lens of automotive modeling where Class A surface means g3 or g4 continuity on your surfacing....so I have a little bit of a tweaked view

But for this application it will certainly put out a nice enough surface, and that looks like a good model

Thanks. I don't use 360. I am using g2 on most of the part and I have never dealt with g4. Does even Catia use g4 or does that have to be manually implemented?

eh g4 is basically only touched by professional CAD moneys in automotive or aerospace from what I was told. Never learned Catia only Alias, Solidworks/ Inventor, Rhino, and played in Maya.

Side note to your actual model.
Are you modeling a radius on the trailing edge? No need to do that if you are since I'm sure you know the trailing edge should be square to avoid drag and hum.

I squared off the trailing edge of the mast, but on the wings I used a conic like blend so I could work on the flow from the leading edge to trailing edge. It was a challenge I wanted to work thru. I'm guessing it doesn't matter much b/c the thickness of the trailing edge is .4mm anyway. There were a few things I wanted to learn so I just went with blending the trailing edge on the wings. You couldn't really manual hand build a radius that small anyway, so it's just for looks really. It's parametric to a degree as well. Pretty much will rebuild itself with any dimension change unless major. I'm gonna add some lettering on the mast later and maybe spice it up a bit with some renderings later. She looks mean from the front I'm calling her the Albatross.

As far as the trailing edge...George on his videos states that the appropriate trailing edge is squared off.

This is a bit arbitrary b/c we are talking about squaring off less than a mm of thickness, but what I am curious about is some high quality foils i have seen are so freaking sharp it is scary. Why is the consensus that a trailing edge should be squared off or blunt, when the trailing edges I have seen are sharp as fk?
