Look at the pictures of a Broken "high End" Firewire Board: http://stormrider.de/surfer-community/2 ... photoid=29
Why are the Boards so expensive if it's just such a simple construction?
That's not Firewire's Kite FST construction. I know because I broke one.

The kite construction has one layer of airex/herex on the bottow, and three on the top, with a layer of bamboo between two of the airex layers. I just had a session on the Vader in conditions similar to yesterday's, the board takes the pounding without a problem.

Nice riding effisk, if your looking for another board - maybe have a look at Sunova.
Bert makes a strong & also light board, mine is two years old now & hardly a depression on the deck.
FireWire shapes are hard to beat, I have a new Helium Tech 5'3 Evo that I surf & kite but the Sunova construction imo is superior in strength & also lighter.

I don't know about these boards. I have tried Firewire's timbertek boards - definitely not for kitesurfing, the wood layers cracks under the heels.

Sorry, got this wrong with the Takoon Boards, was expecting more... actually for most of the bigger companies it ends putting a lot more effort in marketing, than into the construction....

So sad!

At which action did your Firewire FST Board break?

So you do recommend the Firewire construction ?

Any more informations on the Notox Boards Construction? Their Fifty Five 5.1 Board look awesome!

20 kilometers full speed in 44 knots, 55 knots in the gusts, choppy water on a 7m kite at the Défi Kite last year. https://vimeo.com/165050060 (at the 2.55 mark you get a good idea of the conditions. It broke shortly after.

Definitely if you're after a long-lasting board. The HB boards are good too, and much lighter, but I haven't found a shape that I like.

I just sold the 4 Notox boards I had. I had them shaped by the factory a few years ago before they made a deal with a third party who now commercialises their kite boards.

My boards were all different, here are two of them:

The board on the left has flax on the bottom and a glass fiber/cork sandwich on the top.
The board on the right has flax on the bottom, a flax/cork sandwich on the top, with a cork pad (no need for wax)

I would recommend FireWire (make sure it's the kite construction), as I've had 3 of their boards.
They were a little heavy in FST but the new Helium Tech is lighter & according to FW also stronger.

The Helium is only stronger than the LFT (which is closer to a standard eps/epoxy construction). If you plan to kite with it get the kite construction, and it's really not bad to regularly surf with if that matters (I do it all the time with my vader). And I'd definitely recommend the kite construction, never seen one break (that picture from the german site isn't kite construction).

In order of weakest to strongest.

LFT
(Rapidfire...might be stronger than Helium but I don't know)
Helium
FST
Timbertek (but only by a tiny bit)
FST Kite

Doyle boards from the gorge, crazy strong, ride well
PVC foam all the way through...no thanks.

I'd say if you want custom Stretch makes some kick ass boards and he knows how to make things light and strong since he's done windsurf, kite, and cutting edge XXL gun boards.

effisk etc. I started this topic and actually the one board I really like for freestyle is Naish Skater 5'2 2015 however the problem might be that it won't last too long. It's very thin which I like a lot, much better feeling to the water. It really flies upwind and levitates on top of the water. Jump take-offs are really easy and effective. And despite it being narrow, it planes very early for its size. I wish HB would make a board like that with their construction. The channels really affect the ride. The only downside of Skater is that it has very little nose rocker = easy to pearl with certain waves. I have Anti 5'4 which is nice but for freestyle I would like it to be more parallel like Skater etc. Just my thoughts.

HB +1 for design and strength! After two years of hard work, all my 5'0" has to show for it are gentle heel dents. I look the worse for it 😛

I have to say, I borrowed a 5'0" stallion the other day from a pretty hardriding guy (lightweight, admittedly), and it looked just fine. Maybe you had a Monday morning product? I'd be pretty pissed off, that's for sure.

Good riding, btw, you got some skill, man.

Thanks.

I don't know about the board, maybe as you say it was a Monday morning product. I'll try to get my hands on a second-hand v2 when I have a chance, I'm not ready to put a thousand dollars in a board that will potentially last less than a month.

I heard from the firewire guys there's a Helium Kite construction coming. Apparently stronger and lighter than the FST Kite.

I bought a Tuflite Stretch F4 a while back. The shape is great, and the tuflite construction is pretty tough for a regular surfboard (not to be confused with tuflite2 which isn't as strong). I liked it so much I had a flax/cork version made by Notox (they have a Stretch licence). Not as good as the tomo shapes though but you can find them for cheap.

If you're interested in the new Firewire FST KITE construction, check out this thread:

I'm just curious when these Boards will be available in Europe...
