Here's my compact board.
I didn't use a boogie board in the end. I used random left over off cuts of bamboo and carbon. I repurposed the deck grip on my mutant.
So this board cost zero $$$. No wait. I purchased a box of laytex gloves for $12.
Someone on the Brm cloud facebook group recommended mounting a rubberduck to the nose of small low float boards for added visibility. I found that you could use the anklesnapper chop waves to get up and going easier when underpowered, for "takeoff":
