Hello all, I'm new to the group. I have a 2002 Sling 16m on order to replace my 2000 Freeair 16. I'm looking for a kite that's more stable at zenith, and most importantly faster turning. I had a chance to fly the '02 14m Sling proto a few months back and was impressed with my short test.

So has anybody had any expereince with the new Sling kites? I just want to verify that my order was a good one or cancel if the 16m is a dog. Thanks in advance!

hey there!

i've seen a guy flying the 12m sling a few weeks ago.
i was impressed
very stable and good looking.
he was still riding it with a 138cm wakestyle board when all others used 16m rhinos and 11.8 airblasts and i had no chance with a 12m rhino and a 6'3" board.

after all i've heard, the slings do not have
a big depower range using the chicken-loop, but you can reduce the power really good by edging the board.

so if i wanted a kite for ripping hard with a small board, the sling would be one of my favorite choices.....

go big

Hey

The depower range is very different and improved a whole lot on the -02 models from Slingshot. So don`t worry about that "problem" anymore...

Chris, I havn't seen all the colors yet. But I picked my new '02 8m a couple of hours ago. It's white with Orange and yellow trim (leading edge). It also has a large silver slingshot logo on one side against the white. I have also seem a solid bright blue. Both kites look really nice. The 8m is AR 5.0.

The new Slingshot TT's boards look really sweet and they have durasurf on the bottom. 2" half moon fins, thick footpads and Adam Koch style footstraps.

Took the 8.0 out today in 25G30. The kite looked really nice inflated(first time) White body with yellow struts and LE. Orange trim.

Connected to the the interior connection points to keep it from turning to fast. Used the stock 20" bar. The bar and lines are first class. Everything was perfect out of the box, no ned to adjust knots, line length etc.

The kite flew well. no jelly fish. The wind was fluky near shore and I did luff it a couple of times. Unfortunately it did not fall back and catch the wind. But it didn't do a massive nose dive either. I'm guessing the higher AR (5.0) is the reason for this.

On the water it felt great. Plenty of range. It didn't turn overly fast at all. A lot slower than my friends AR5 7.5 (which is good). I will try the faster setting next time, outside connections. With the smaller 20" bar I think the faster setting will be fine.
