rescure strapless board with TT

Postby knyfe » Mon Aug 28, 2017 4:59 pm

I had to 'rescue" a strapless board yesterday to realize that it was just too big to squeeze under my arms as I usually do with a TT. Whats your strategy on larger strapless directionals? Switch over to the directional and carry the TT? I tried that too but then the strapless was too squibbly to handle along with the TT under the arm. I also tried just pulling it behind on the tip but that was too slippery.

Whats your approach if the board is to big?

G

Probably the easiest is to switch boards and carry the TT.

This does require some solid strapless skills, as you are likely to be overpowered jumping over from a TT.

Or if you have enough power you can hold on to the nose with one hand and control the kite with the other.
I try to have a little tail rope on the back plug so it is easier to grab and so I can attach a leash to it. If there is one of those it should be easy to hold on to.

T: I tried the nose and it was too slippery. There was no tail rope attached on the strapless board.

L: I was well powered on my TT so I had a BLAST on the strapless - way overpowered. I tried that combination. I can ride strpless its just not one of my strong areas ;-)

Did you have speed when you tried to grab the nose? I have pulled a board with a fairly sharp nose and tail was in the water.

You could try a fin, but they can be a bit sharp :/

I agree with the idea to ride the strapless board in. But if that doesn't work, a lot of surf boards have a small attachment point for a leash. You could probably use your safety leash to hook into that.

instead of trying to hold the whole thing in your arm you can hold one rail against your body and grab the other rail with your hand, so the deck of the board is facing straight up. it's already in this position if you do a water start with the board in your lap also

some good points which I will try the next time around.

The owner was busy rescuing his kite from the rocks ;-) All turned out well at the end but I just could not manage to ride both of the boards upwind well. Riding the TT and somehow holding on the the strapless worked a bit but just not long enoguht to make it back upwind. I ended up dumping the board close to him once he had his kite under control. But I just felt bad not being able to manage the situation well as dealing an additional TT is always easy.

Thanks for your suggestions. G
