Does anyone know how to cure bald spots in the wax on a surfboard?
After every session, the same spots are always clean of wax, and I struggle to get the wax back on.
The rest of the board is fine, there are just those two spots I can't get a nice coat of wax onto.
I have tried cleaning the board entirely and re-applying wax, it goes back to the same result after one session.
I have tried cleaning just the bald spots, even with wax remover, still the same.
See the pictures below of the result of re-applied wax and the bald spots.

I build up a base with a diamond or arrow pattern. Make sure wax is for right temperature range. Still have to reapply but the diamond/arrow base usually stays.

Sticky bumps sells a base wax.
Use the base wax first before you apply the top wax

Not really a fan of pads, I quite like the wax.
Any advice regarding the temperature of the board and wax?
I live somewhere really warm, so room temperature is more like 25°C, sometimes more.
Not sure if warmer wax is easier or harder to apply.

Depends on the manufacturer but I think it varies about 5deg C (10deg F). Usually labeled very cold, cold, cool, warm, tropical. Sounds like you should use warm or tropical. its a harder wax and should not melt in the sun as easily. I made the mistake one time by ordering cold sticky bumps from Amazon when I lived in Hawaii - it was very soft, came off easy, and felt like I rolled in tree sap after a session.

I mean application temperature.
I have the correct grade wax for the water temperature. It is written on the box, and also the only one available.
I am asking about the temperature of the wax and board when applying. If you left your (clean) board in the sun all day before trying to apply wax the result will be different to if you had a much cooler board.
Same for the wax, if you left the wax in the sun or freezer the result would be different.
Those are extreme cases though. What would be the ideal for each?

As long as you don’t wax it in the sun you’re fine. I’d typically wax my board in the shade at outside air temperature anywhere from 70deg to 85deg Fahrenheit.
The key is building a base. If you build a base using a diamond pattern you’ll notice much better results than the wax Job shown in the photo.
