Mmm i can’t SUP to save myself but Gunnar (gmb) can. Maybe drop him a line. I’m pretty sure a leash is not a great idea when learning to sup foil.

Can you get behind a boat and learn to foil on flat water before riding a wave ?
Boat....have a boat and that's the plan.

In the surf, will have to weight the pros and cons of a leash, as we're in a rocky location. However, I am planning on using this only in small waves, and mostly waves that are barely breaking (what I see as the advantage/purpose of it), so not too much tumbling around on wipeouts hopefully.

Just ordered the Takuma from Sublimation.
Used Paypal which comes with order protection etc. just under $600 total w/shipping and fees. 60cm mast although you can get whatever size you want and even multiple. Great response time, shipped next day.

I'll let you know what it looks like, hopefully like j-perths setup.

I ordered same one as J Perth and Rad Dr Duke. Got it in less than a week. Haven't got it mounted on the sup yet, but pretty sure it will work ... looks to be a clone of the Takuma V100. J Perth posted a video of using it, and lots of videos online of the Takuma. It is low aspect to the max, reports are it is super slow, but very stable, and up on a foil quick, possibly quicker than you want sometimes. Not sure about kiting with it, but should be fun for sup.

Looks like in 2018 RE wants a piece of the hydrofoil cake as well. They now have rebranded Slingshot Hover Glide foil on offer

http://www.rideengine.com/GEAR/surf-foi ... -Foil.html

and it looks very similar to this Chinese knockoff with less sexy paint job if anyone is interested

Anyone order one of these ?

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Top-Qua ... 8f1eafd7cb
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/brand-n ... 8f1eafd7cb
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/High-St ... 8f1eafd7cb

Looks a lot like Liftfoil but with fixed fuselage and dismountable wings.

It should be lighter than the Takuma clone which I read is 5,9 kg !

I was super tempted to buy one of those. $219 US. Plus $257 for an 8' SUP with tracks installed. $210 shipping. So all in, $700US for a complete SUPfoil set up. I can email details if you pm me.

The main worry was no user reviews, kinda risky to be the first, even with the buyer protection from paypal. I bought the Takuma clone because others before me had done it successfully, and also because of positive reviews of these from a few Kiteforum members. However, knowing this one is a slingshot clone should help, since there's a good chance it is the exact same foil just unbranded. Find which one is the GoFoil and you're in business, as that's currently the market leader for SUP foils.

These companies can offer it for the price because they do not have to spend any kind of money on actually testing and developing the equipment you can offer it for cheap. They steal other people's work and sell it. I bet not a single person in this company even knows what kiteboarding / surfing really is.
So if you want to f*** over your own sport buy from these guys.

Personally I cannot wait until 3D printing is at a level where all parts are produced in your local store. You just order the drawings from the designers.

Very keen to hear your experiences with the Takuma copy. I have ordered one as well through James. I have to separate foils that are broken and cannot wait to use the Takuma foil

It is unstoppable reality particularly in the case of hydrofoils as they don't pose anything like the safety risk of kites when it comes to quality assurance, and they can be shipped easily.

Reality is choose your career/ investments /business
wisely as our jobs may well not be relevant in a few years time. I tried moral based marketing in my businesses, everyone I talked to was onside, but when it came to the figures it was a complete fail.

As an observer the kiteboarding industry is at a tipping point right now, fewer riders than 10 years ago.

Printing fins etc will be too easy!
