How do KBs keep from drowning when they wear boots

Postby beebad » Tue Dec 12, 2017 4:31 am

I can't imagine wearing boots though I have only been kting a year...Do people ever get into trouble weaaring boots and being attached to your board....
I think of being dragged the wrong way underwater....anyway....

I am anxious to hear about the technique...

That's part of the reason why not everyone should ride in bindings.

The trick is essentially to keep the board at a positive angle of attack when it is behind you. Then it is a lot of twisting the body.
Basically not for beginners.

No. I'm not good enough to justify wearing boots.
I would look a lot cooler though

there a quiet some who think like this...they for sure can tell you more about their experiences with crashes :naughty:

I personally can never imagine wearing boots...having so many crashes where I kicked my board away...and for sure didn't want it to stick to me.

If you are on a higher level where it makes sense to wear boots and it would help you more than it makes things worse, go for it. Before that level, stick to straps.

So it’s all about getting your feet out in front of you, whether you’re coming down in the air or rotating in the water. Important thing to get out of your head is that you won’t sink just because your feet are constricted (this is yet another reason why good core strength is critical for Kiteboarding). Your gear provides plenty of bouyancy.

One great indicator is how comfortable you are treading water with just your arms. For a swimmer, legs are obviously a major factor in gaining forward momentum, but they are actually not that critical for treading water. Try it in the pool some time..

If I'm in the water with boots I swim so I don't drown. if you can't swim I don't know what you would do. not sure why you would kiteboard if you can't swim. seems scary.

Well it sucks to have a crashed powered unhooked kite rigged suicide when you are on your back in boots being pulled downwind. Thats the most worse part that i remember. Other than that no issues. Except hard crashes when catching an edge
