The new 2006 Pyro harness is nice, seems to feel more snug than the 2005. The big downside though is the lack of a hook knife pocket. This was a really nice feature Dakine's other harnesses, now I am left wondering where a good place to stash the hook knife is.

It was delivered without the Knife though.

And where is it? You sure it's '06? Cause i got '06 model recently and it has no pocket ...

I have friends who have used them... I think its one of those things that you may not need for years, but when you do, it could save your life. I am not interested in losing fingers or getting my throat sliced like that guy in Maui.

Also, my old dakine one hasn't rusted at all... its stainless steel.

Its a bummer they got rid of it on the Pyro... if it was a cost thing I'd gladly pay the extra $25 bucks or whatever it costs to have one on there.

Never thought i'd use mine then couple of weeks ago found myself and kite lines tangled up with a bunch of mono fishing line that was attached to something under the water. Fiddled around for a couple of minute trying to get free and then remembered the hook knife. Was easy to grab and had me free in about 5 seconds.

After talking some more winth Dakine, it sounds like there was a reason that the pocket went away: They are coming up with a better and safer solution. Hopefully it comes out soon, in the meantime I won't be kiting much anyway as its gotten very cold round these parts.

The one that came with with my old Dakine harness rusted pretty quickly.
But that was okay ... I couldn't use it anyway; that spot on my back where
it was mounted was physically impossible for me to reach without a kite
attached never mind in any dragging-type scenario. I now have 2 knives,
front mounted, right and left of the spreader bar - for easy access with
either hand, and one has a slightly larger blade opening that can cut leader
lines or a chicken loop if necessary.

I used the knife once so far, but on a friend's lines, not my own. (He now
has his own knife ... and replaced his nasty non-functioning Ronstan QR
with a Wichard )
