Review for Genetrix Hydra 2007 9

Times tested: No Comment
Range: 18kn to 36kn

Good: 95% depower. Never felt so much depower on any kite. If a one kite option exists, this is it!
Very slow & forgiving a very good kite for beginners or wave riding

Bad: all that depower, no riding 'on the knot'.
For safety this kite has no stopperball.
Very slow & forgiving a very good kite for beginners (if you're advanced you probably will not like this kite. I would never buy any flat kite for myself)
No agressive, high jumps, but nice airtime (same as any flat kite, in my opinion (but haven't tested the Rhino 7 yet))

Review: Slowest kite I've ever flown & this a big plus for beginners. I flew the 9 for an hour or so, I presume the 12 (if you buy your 1st kite, it will probably be the 12) is even slower.
Most beginners have a tendency to buy kites which are to quick & the you learn really slowly (I sure did this).
So buy this kite for your first 2/4 years of kiting, then switch from bow/sle to a c-shaped kite (or commit to wave riding).

Build quality looked the same as a kite from the big brands.

It has a bridle like a paraglider/ parachute which means inversion is impossible.

I flew the kite in very, very gusty winds in Vietnam (from 20 to 35 knots and back to 20 within 15 seconds) and this kite is very suitable for gusty winds. If you move the bar 10 centimeters you'll go from lots of power to very litle power.

This kite seems very interesting because of the huge wind range, but I want a kite where you feel the power. My WW rapture2 has a big wind range to, but is as funny to ride as C kite, because you don't have a good power reserve. This is my felling with this kite, and that's why my next kite will be an hybrid one I believe, to conserve the power!

I have test this kite and I found it very performant (More lift and sustentation than my Rhino4/5).
Enough Slow = perfect to old shool freestyle (eg board off)
After This try I had the arms tired, because no stopper balls.
If you can read french I did a review on a french site http://kt31.free.fr/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=1964#1964[/u]

this kite seems slow, but can we do kiteloops easily with the 9m?
Can you do wake tricks like raileys, or just old school big jumps?

I own three Hydra kites -7,9,and 14m2

Slow what? You have to tune the bridals to suit your style. That is adjust the lengths. Antonie the Genetrix lead tester showed me how to do it. Once tuned you can do all the Kite loops you want or slow them up if that does not take your fancy.

In reply to one persons comment that he can't get any big time air on the Hydra -it's a totally different kite to an old C-style. You have to learn how to use. Once you discovered it's characteristics you will seriously out do any rider on an old C or bow kite.

These kites are the Ferrari's of Kites and like any Ferrari you can't ask any ford cortina driver to get into one and expect it to perform.

I feel sorry for those who test a new kite but are not prepared to go through the learning curve and go back to there old wind bags!
