Hi mojorisin
Apologies for the delay, I just wanted to get as many of your questions answered.
I am not too familiar with the situation at UNLV. This would need further investigation should a there be a new collegiate kiteboarding club in your area.
New members to our club are required to sign a Participation Statement and Informed Consent form as per the university. We refer members to a number of schools for professional lessons. You raise an interesting point and I too believe that the CKA should impose standards (in this case teaching) on all clubs that are members. A structure like this has been in the works for a long time but we are still trying to get together students who can actually follow through and formalize the organization.
I have included information below concerning your valuation and tax write-off/IRS queries. And yes we could supply a shipping label should the donor require it.
We still haven't managed to process a donation for the upcoming school year so if you or use Rbgar are interested please get in touch!

The FSU Foundation is a recognized 501(c)3, non-profit organization. Our federal ID is 59-6152180. This means that all gifts are 100% tax deductible.
As you are aware, for all donations, we need a third party appraisal of the items being donated. I believe you usually refer donors to Matt Nuzzo at Real Watersports, which seems to be a great process. The items and appraisal then get sent to us. Once the items are received, we send a “Thank You” letter for the donated goods. The “Thank You” letter does NOT have a dollar value associated with it. In order for the donor to take complete advantage of the tax benefits, on their annual taxes they will claim the amount donated as the amount from the third party appraiser. The “Thank You” letter from us, along with the documented third party appraisal, is what the donor would use should they ever need to prove they made a donation. This would typically only happen in cases of the donor being audited by the IRS.
The short of it is, the donor should always keep our “Thank You” letter and a copy of the appraisal as proof of their donation. Those are the only two things necessary for them.
