Im flying into HKG for the Ruby 7's on Friday. I was thinking of bringing my kit along with me.

Anyone ever hit up Lantau or Cheung Chau?

Windguru seems to be predicting decent wind.

I'm also tempted to go visit the guy here who is in Penghu. But I don't really have time to escape for long enough to make the extra two flights worth it.

Very fickle conditions this time of the year with the NE monsoon fighting with the Summer pattern try to re-establish itself again so it's all about timing. The forecast can change daily and mostly does there is no way of knowing that there will actually be decent wind this coming weekend and if windguru forecasts it - it will probably change radically by Wed or Thur! Cheung Chau is no good on N direction - always has to be some East direction so ENE (gusty) E or ESE works well. Lantau better than CC if wind goes too far around to the N but busy place with 30-40 guys out on a good day in a small shallow cove

I would bring the biggest kite you have, I normally use 16m torch but if you a lighter rider (under 80kg) you could get a way with a 12-14. Best time to kite if we get a E or NE wind is the morning - the earlier the better as wind can be gone by lunchtime!

I will be looking to get on the water Sunday as I work Saturday although might be getting Sat PM off - finger crossed Windguru hasn't already jinxed it for the weekend!! Might see you on the water...

Also Taiwan (Taipei) is the best guarantee for wind but forget actual wind forecast as long as it's NE you will get 25-35 knots depending on where you go! HK to Taipei just one flight and they leave every hour - limo to the beach 20mins, kite all day fly back that night! Train to airport from Central HK 25mins (airport express)

No facilities on the beach so BYO water and food and if NE direction you will need 6-7m kite ONLY! Check windguru for GuanYin and add 5-10knots on top of the forecast if NE direction!! Nico is your contact at the beach, I can give you the number of the Limo driver who knows the beach well and will get you there and pick you up later in the evening and take you back....

Hi Joffaburger. I am going to try to get to Taipei next month, sounds like a nice easy option to kite. How are the conditions on the beach there?
