A guy I work with lives on a sail boat in one of the local marinas. He pays maybe $300 a month if he dosent do any jobs around the marina allot of the time he stays there for free. He has to do some repairs to his sails and rigging before he leaves for the carrabien but he can move his house anywhere on the coast.

That's exactly what I'm talking about! You have to take care of your home ( boat ) and need some money saved for unexpected repairs but you monthly living expense can be kept low. Plus you can move it around and experience different places like the Caribbean in winter and Hatteras in summer.

IDK, Boat is really just an acronym for Break Out Another Thousand!
When my bro's transmission failed down in the islands, he could get the boat right up to port, but needed a tow into the marina.... $1500.00 for about 300m.

A Hang glider pilot, who flew Torry Pines a lot and had a 37ft Piver Trimaran moored in San Diego harbor for $100 a month. It wasn't as fast as a Catamaran but it had more room.
His bottom needed repair, so he beached it at High-Tide and worked on it as the tide went out ; a few days later he was back flying Torry and not complaining about how much money the same job would have cost at a marina !!
He could sail to port Without a motor but had a small one for back-up.

Read "Cashing in on the American Dream: How to Retire at 35", by Paul Terhorst. I think it is out of print but it will be at the library and available used online.
Also, if you do some online searches with the title you will find a lot of useful information related to the topic.

If you have the skills or possibly have a small crew a boat is a decent idea. I have a eurovan I plan on living in for a few months next fall. If I didn't have a house I would have a boat. Too. Both have pros and cons. If I was in Europe I could at least take the ferry. Living on the easy coast I could do like my co worker.
