Crissy Field sailors. America's Cup plans have changed, and it appears that the National Park Service will not give the race organizers control of the park and parking lot, so it may be possible to sail during many of the race days. But that depends on the level of restrictions on the water. The comment period for the Coast Guard's rules closes on April 30, and the Coast Guard captain today described the comments by windsurfers and kiters as "light." There is lots of juice behind this, and if we are going to get effective mitigation that will let us sail at either Crissy or Treasure Island during the races, it will be helpful if more sailors post comments. It doesn't have to be long, just of the nature that you sail there and want to sail there during the races so please limit the areal extent of closures on the Bay. Online at www.regulations.gov docket # is USCG-2011-0551 http://www.regulations.gov/ www.regulations.gov

Why not just NOT kite / windsurf on those days? I think it would be acceptable to sacrifice a few days so others could enjoy their sport. Plus wouldn't you want to watch the Americas Cup? It's gonna be awesome, I hope I can make it there to watch.
Same with going out on crowded, light wind, weekend days when you are more likely to be a hazard to others and disrupt their fun. Easier and more fun to drink beer and spectate yeah?

I thought the same thing, but it appears there will be events going on for quite a while, so it's not like the locals are just sitting out a weekend; Quote: When
The main event and those leading up to it will involve at least 43 days of racing involving some of the fastest sailboats ever raced.
Racing to determine the challenger for the America's Cup will begin on July 13, 2013, on San Francisco Bay. The America's Cup finals on the bay between the challenger and defender will start on Sept. 7, 2013.

But he is obviously not willing to drive a few miles.

Hundreds are not willing to drive to third, it is a big bay and the AC can move down wind of our sailing site. http://www.ktvu.com/videos/sports/americas-cup/lbX/

while you have 'hundreds' the AC have 'hundreds of MILLIONS of dollars" so good luck taking your approach and trying to get any where.
what you are up against is the the Financial benefit that the AC will bring to the city through tourism, increased spending, increased visibility/publicity of the city and what it offers in showcasing world class sailing events.
Unless you can make a case that says letting you and your friends kite at the location that you want to will meet/exceed the financial benefit to the city then i am afraid you will be shit out of luck.

3rd is more than a few miles from SF. Going down there after work is not something most of us that kite Crissy can do. Bay Area traffic sucks at 4-6PM.
This is a comment period. If you kite Crissy do it this Friday and then go down to the St Francis YC and give some input and have a few beers. We are not S.O.L look at the flyer posted here these are the people making the rules.
FYI John Craig was the Race Director at the St. Francis before he moved over to do the job with the AC. He help create the sport of kiteboard course racing. A lot of his staff kites as well.

First of all Dennis Conner is the Americas Cup, and he would say they were racing catamarans 25 years ago and this is really not that new .. Kiteboarding and windsurfing is way more bad ass then the americas cup who gives a hoot.... Restricting the water to watch a bunch of foreigners driving american cup boats around is bull nOt even americans on the AC american teams .... Sorry but local american windsurfers and kiters probobly don't care about watching foreigners represent our country they would rather go for a sail If Dennis or any americans on the American teams were racing we would watch ... Keep the bay open close off the bay to actuall local sailors just loses support for the cup. Whos the cup trying to portray the sport too. Sailors or just the general public?
