Pretty hard to live so close to the beach, spending all summer swimming and watching the windsurf boys without wishing for more thrills than flailing about in the water. But for me, it was a photo of Corey Roeseler in a magazine that got me interested in kites and riding on the water ...

That rowboat/ sailboat was a Sabot, 8 feet long with transom bow.

Interesting story because at age10 my dad built me a custom "Sabot" 8 feet long
Double bottom so in the event of capsizing it would not fill up with water
Rear transom was open to let water out
Boom was curved like the foot of the sail
Mast was very tapered at top to flex
Centerboard,rudder,tiller etc etc..

All handmade by my dad
He was a true craftsman.......over the years built over 25 sailboats from scratch

At age 13 i graduated to larger monohull the "OK Dinghy" and raced that for 3 years

Thanks for your great story James...................... :thumb: ....... :surf: :sun: ................

When i moved to this island i was a bikeracer and alpine skier, my girlfriend who was a long time winsurfer took me to the beach and told me... it takes to much time to learn windsurfing (she was into waves) so you better learn this new sport called kitesurfing, it's much easier...

Said and done... nobody knew much about this sport and i had no idea of the wind.... I have been swimming far out in cold lakes since i was a kid... so that was no problem. The road was long, but after some months i started riding.

Since a child I always liked to ride a jangada, boat made by hand by fishermen. Enjoyed fishing with my father in this type of vessel. Dived and fished a lot with this type of vessel.

This is a jangada

After a while when I was 15 years, decide to buy a Holder 12 to sail with my girlfriend.

Today she charges a lot for a kiteboard for two people. Does anyone have or seen?
Thanks,
Ricardo

When I was a young lad I was afraid of the water, then one day I saw a beautiful girl mermaid, she taught me to love the water among other things. :naughty: To be continued.......
