What's up family? I am new to this sport and very looking forward to getting into it. On that note I have done quite a bit of research and understand what I need to know to start. I recently bought a Kite that came with bar and lines. After closer inspection yesterday, the trim line looks really rough. How and where would I go about getting this replaced? The Leader lines look fine so I think if I replace the trim line than I should be fine.
Thanx,

this is where a pic would help. all bars are different... ..or you go to whom ever it is that produced the bar and get a new line

Alright tautologies, I get it.... pick on the newby . I don't know yet how bland my questions are until I get deeper into the sport I guess. Thought it might have been a general question. I will look around for a direct replacement. Just thought there was a general answer including type of line. I have a 2009 Naish Cult kite with I believe the original bar for that model.

You can make your own replacement lines leaders chicken loop lines and elasticized flag outs. Just buy the right diameter dyneema/spectra and if required splice it. By "trim line" do you mean the actual trim line, this is a line that is for above the bar depower, is usually pretty short, or do you mean the chicken loop line which is a line that goes through the bar and into the chicken loop for below the bar depower? The chicken loop for 2006 and earlier is usually 8mm for 2007 and later it's usually 6mm. You can buy generic chicken loop line as long as it is the right length and diameter but the specific technique for replacing it is different for each kite, you unscrew, unhook, pull it through etc. Or do you mean the elasticized flag out line (if your kite is able to flag) it usually has loops on both ends, and it varies in diameter for each brand of kite, usually 3mm tho. If you don't know how to splice the elasticized line might be easiest to buy a brand name replacement.
Whatever the case pull it out and if there are no loops u need to splice, just measure it, and buy the same diameter and length dyneema like amsteel blue, you should be ok.

talk to your local dealer they can get one for your brand of kite, but everyone calls it something different, ozone calls it the flag out, liquid force calls it the CPR safety line, best calls it the redline

And what IS a trim line ? It can be a little extra piece of line at the end of the depower line, above. It can be part of the depowerline and positioned above or a double line ending under the bar with a cleat. Others has a plastic coated depowerline so it does not wear out or get "fluffy". So tautologies was not picking on anybody (actually I have NEVER seen him do that ) - but simply stating that a picture is the only way to get some useful response in this very case As there are too many different bar systems around, so a general discussion is not possible - at least not without some more details Maybe the line is fine and you dont need to replace ? Maybe it is on the verge to catastrophe and should be changed asap ? Peter

That is practically brand new, it's smooth like snake. My lines are fluffy like kitten.
If you want take it off measure the length & diameter, and buy the same length dyneema amsteel blue from west marine and then put on your new line. Or buy the exact brand model from your local dealer for that brand of kite.
It's always nice to be kiting on a brand new chicken line / depower line, so why not replace it if you have the time.
If it were me, tho, I wouldn't replace it for another year or two, it's almost brand new.
12 strand 1/4 inch (6mm) dyneema has a breaking strength of 8,000 to 9,000 pounds, double that since it's doubled through the pulley that's 16,000 to 18,000 pounds. Your individual lines have a breaking strength of 600 to 800 pounds, multiply that by 4 since you have four lines and they break somewhere between 2,400 and 3,200 pounds.
Your depower / chicken rope is going to hold you until it's worn almost in half. The actual kite lines tho, they will break more easily.
