Here is a few ways to make lift :

Sinking air from rain is one
Notice how the center if the rain-shaft is in sinking air, but it goes UP in every direction
around the circumstance. And No guarantee how fast the mass of air is moving across
the ground .

Another one is your classic thermal ; but note the sinking air between thermals.

And on the picture taken here :

Easy explanation for what's happening ; wind blows Up slope, then silplane goes up
in the lift.

OK -- replace the Hill with a Really Hot beach.
This makes a bubble of Hot air that can be strong enough to force a 10 -12mph wind
up over it ; a Great source of lift for an RC airplane, also could add a few feet to a jump
possibly maybe .

Nice link Bille,

I was aware of gust fronts before sqaulls. But i wasn't aware they also had rising air aswell. That explains random loftings at sea in sqaully conditions.

Problem! The more i learn the less i want to risk it. but at the same time i want to risk it....

Its an internal battle between the mortgage paying father who wants to get home to see his kids and the crazy dare devil that wants to hurl himself into all sorts of crazy situations...

some times the mortgage payer wins... other times the crazy man previals.

One thing is certain. The older i get the better i was!.
