Many beaches and lakes have areas designated for boating, swimming, camping, etc… As kiters are aware, not just any beach or entry point will suffice in providing a safe haven for our sport. Yet every weekend we find ourselves navigating around campers, picnickers, swimmers, & boaters at our little launch sites. Fortunately we have not had any safety issues but anything can happen.
I am hoping to discover a way to educate the officials that manage our beaches and lakes about this sport and hopefully carve-out designated “kite sites” throughout the state lakes and beaches.
Does anyone have suggestions on where to start?

We have kind of started the process you mention at our favorite north Texas launch at Johnson Branch State park at Lake Ray Roberts. We did it by spending a lot of time with rangers and officials who have come out to watch. We have no problems setting up and riding on "our" beach any day I have been there.
